You think so? ione has a store on the same floor as OSIM (ground floor) in Sovanna, surround by your so called counterfeit goods. Is ione temporary?

OSIM problem is it has to compete with other China/Taiwan make health related machine, these copied product did not market as OSIM, they don't have Andy Lau as a spoke person, so it is not counterfeit, has the same functionanity, but cheaper.

Ione is a local company, lots of people own apple products these days, nothing special about it.

If you look outside Cambodia, let's say Australia, OSIM usually presence in a middle-end / high-end shopping centers

Ok, fair enough, it doesn't have a lot of choice, when it comes to mid/high end shopping center.

OSIM as a luxury health product is probably like a luxury sport car, there will be a market, people fancy a free massage, but not many will actually buy it.

OSIM store is closed in the Sovanna mall this Tuesday, not sure if it is close for good, or because it was labor day.

I start to see ads in the paper for the Sihanouk Boulevard store. (116A Sihanouk Boulevard).

Their Sihanoukville store will open probably in the next couple of days, the shop right next to OSIM, which is under construction, is also nicely decorated

Knife maker Victorinox comes to Phnom Penh

Swiss Army Knife maker Victorinox this week launched a Phnom Penh retail store on Monivong Boulevard, catering to what experts said was a growing domestic interest in luxury goods.

Cambodian-owned HGB Trading Co Ltd partnered with the brand for its debut in the country.

Some Victroinox watches on display at the store yesterday cost up to US$2,000.

HGB also introduced the Vertu mobile phone brand to Cambodia earlier this year.

Some of the phones at the boutique shop in the Phokeethra Sofitel Hotel were priced at more than $35,000.

Economists have noted the increasing number of luxury goods shop in a country with per capita annual income of slightly more than $900.

“I think luxury products will increase in popularity and demand in Cambodia, but they will do so slowly,” said Chheang Vannarith, an economist and executive director of the Cambodia Institute for Cooperation and peace.

“The growing middle and high classes can now afford these products and many Cambodians are now seeking quality after having a large amount of inferior quality products in circulation.”

Chheang Vannarith called the incoming high-end consumer products a “positive development”, but said markets for the goods would remain small for up to another 10 years.

Cosmetic goods in particular would find traction in Cambodia, he said.

A clothing retailer concentrated on Sihanouk Boulevard near Independence Monument told the Post earlier this year that well-known, international brands were becoming increasingly willing to be represented in Cambodia.

Cambodian-owned Sovereign Retail began representing regional brands in 2005, a company representative told the Post earlier this year.

The company has paved the way for bigger brands such as Mango to enter the Kingdom, a development that wasn’t possible only a few years earlier.

Cambodian customers may find products at Victorinox’s retail shop more affordable than a diamond-studded phone.

Knifes with built-in gadgets such as can openers, laser pointers, scissors, saws, nail-files, magnifying glasses and even clocks start at about $30, but can be as pricy as $1,500.

HGB also plans to launch the American phone brand Luminox in the near future, and possibly other luxury brands at Vattanac tower, which is now under construction, an unofficial spokesperson said.

The one in Monivong is in Corner of Monivong and Kampuchea Krom, close to KFC.

Did anyone been to its parent branch in Malaysia to know how is the food like?

I walk pass their shops in Malaysia and Thailand, similar to any other cake shops, there are branches in Australia too

Retail space to triple: report

The supply of shopping centre space in Phnom Penh is set to triple in the next five years, according to a CBRE Cambodia report, and one insider said the jump in higher-end retail venues would come even sooner.

A Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd shopping centre, one of two large-scale international retail developments in the country, would push that increase in retail supply.

If planned developments come to fruition, there could be as much as 312,000 square metres of retail venues in shopping centres by 2017, up from last month’s count of about 105,000 square metres, the CBRE report said.

Malaysia’s Parkson has started construction on a shopping centre in Phnom Penh, Sung Bonna, president of National Valuers Association of Cambodia, said yesterday, although he declined to give details on the project.

Japanese retail developer Aeon Co Ltd was also in the process of developing what would be one of the country’s largest retail shopping centres on the capital’s Sothearos Boulevard.

A lack of world-class brand management in Cambodian malls is driving the demand for internationally developed shopping projects, Knight Frank country manager Sunny Soo said yesterday.

“At malls here, you have two floors of people selling shoes – sometimes the same shoes. It’s not profitable for the retailer or the mall owners,” he said.

“Until today, the city doesn’t have first class shopping malls ... All the shopping malls here are suffering from bad leasing management.”

Shortfalls in funding have led to developers selling off retail space, which limits the control they have over brand placement, he said.

International developers such as Aeon and Parkson could alleviate layout problems that hinder sales and dissuade name brands from entering the country.

Increased spending power among urban Cambodians has continued to lure brands such as Mango and Axara into the Kingdom, Sovereign Retail Group told the Post in February.

Brand awareness – largely non-existent five years ago – has seen many working-class Cambodians opt for name-brand shirts and shoes rather than the imitations found in some traditional marketplaces, Sovereign’s Ly Souden said at the time.

Per capita gross domestic product was slightly higher than US$900 in 2011, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, a 70 per cent jump since 2006. Citing Economic Institute of Cambodia data, CBRE said that figure could rise to $1,000 next year. “This is one of the main reasons for more retail here: disposable income,” Soo said.

CBRE’s projected tripling of retail space could happen by 2015 if Aeon and Parkson projects, as well as other shopping centres such as Cambodia Plaza, are completed on time, Sung Bonna said.

Although CBRE reported a 78 per cent occupancy rate at current shopping centres, large-scale, international retail venues would bring with them a surge in name brands.

“People are starting to pick up name brands … but high quality brands don’t want to be in small buildings. They are waiting for the grade-A space,” Sung Bonna said.

The Aeon and Parkson projects would attract high-end brands, and name brands already in the country would most likely move to the new venues, he said.
