So incensed was Jamie O'Neill by the imagined Geordie invasion that he penned them a letter pointing out the mistake.

But in an email sent back to the bemused traveller employee Rajesh Bangera, perhaps imagining that Hadrian's Wall had something to do with the dividing line, replied: "Good Afternoon. Thank you for your email. Newcastle is indeed in Scotland."

He continued: "Please feel free to contact us for further assistance, regards, Rajesh Bangera."

It certainly makes sense to group Newacstle with Scotland for tourist purposes but to then insist it is in Scotland....dumb

I've worked for several international businesses that have grouped Newcastle and the North East with Scotland when dividing the UK into regions for commercial purposes.

Watching those twerps on The Apprentice last night made me really glad that the Jesmond Dene segway idea never got going.

Interesting - I was under the impression that these things were still technically categorised as motor vehicles, and as they can't be 'approved' as vehicles their use on the road was illegal. Equally because they are vehicles they can't be used on paths. Here's a judgement on a well known case; upheld on appeal.

They weren't on the road NP, they were on the grass - to the immediate north of Jesmond Vale Lane.

Gotcha. My reading is that they can t be used legally on road or pavement [which rather puts me off buying one].

Weren't they actually going to create a path at Jesmond for them?

I'm sure Greg Stone would be able to tell us more, he was fairly involved in this idea.

Simply Segway - http://www.simplysegway.com/

We are located in HEATON and ARMSTRONG PARKS at The Pavillion, Heaton Park, off Jesmond Vale Lane, Heaton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 5JT right next door to 'Sambuca Italian Cafe Restaurant. How fantstic is that! This superb area offers lots of amenities and is easy to get to, just a few minutes from the city centre.

I m up for it. Re read my posted and they seem rather negative. I know why they have been defined as vehicles.... but it seems to me that if I can be knocked over by a man in fluorescent lycra on a bike then a segway which goes much less quickly is not a problem.

Ouseburn Heritage Group

Got this message from Eric Larkham and thought I would copy it here in case anyone was interested in attending:

On Tuesday 8th May Tom Besford, Squire of the Newcastle Kingsmen, will give us a presentation on the unique form of traditional North East dance known as Rapper.

Tom will be joined by musicians and dancers who will demonstrate the wide variety of forms that Rapper can take, often differing even between next-door communities.

Rapper has spread to various parts of the world, the Cumberland has hosted international performances and some of the dancers and musicians that you’ll meet have taken part in competitions abroad. Prizes and trophies on display in the bar show how the Cumberland really is the home of Rapper in this area and plays a vital role in keeping it alive.

The presentation will take place in the upstairs room of the Cumberland Arms beginning at 7:30pm and will be free of charge.

Is this a dance that involves big swords? Or is it some modern nonsense from the "hood"?

Cool, both Bewick and Crawhall have done illustrations of it, obviously Crawhall is funnier.

Newcastle Airport bosses' tourism hopes
for new easyJet plane

by Michael Brown, The Journal, April 27th 2012

easyJet's Airbus A320 plane at Newcastle Airport

BUSINESS leaders have welcomed the arrival of a £20m plane that could see thousands of extra tourists flocking to the North East each year. Budget airline easyJet yesterday touched down its bright orange Airbus A320 – a 180-seat jet that will help add 50,000 seats to the company’s routes.

The aircraft will be used initially for holiday travel to destinations such as Barcelona, Majorca, Nice and Paris, but from December it will also see service on the firm’s newly announced year-round service to Amsterdam, a route that replaces flights to the French capital.

Dave Laws, chief executive at Newcastle International Airport, said: “The new service from easyJet to Amsterdam this winter is a fantastic addition to our low-cost portfolio, as well as a great boost to the region’s tourism economy. The North East is incredibly popular with Dutch tourists who visit the region to shop and watch our top-class football teams in action. Amsterdam’s many cultural attractions, stunning architecture and scenic canals make it a great city-break destination."

“We hope more choice will encourage even more people to take a short break from Newcastle Airport.”

Hi guys, just a quick question. Didn't find any relevant topic for it. Does any kind of permission or licence required for street performers in Newcastle? For example, to perform on Northumberland st?
