MRF starts production at Rs 900-cr plant in TN
MRF has started production at its new plant in Tiruchi (Tamil Nadu).
The company has invested around Rs 900 crore on the 200-acre plant, which will manufacture a full range of tyres, including truck tyres and radials. It will cater to both domestic and export requirements. The plant has just begun rolling out tyres, for both commercial and non-commercial vehicles. “Ramp-up is happening. We expect it to reach full capacity in six months,” said Mr Koshy Varghese, Executive Vice-President – Marketing. This facility was proposed as its existing six manufacturing units were operating at full capacity. MRF's other manufacturing units are in Arakonam, Tiruvottiyur (Tamil Nadu), Medak (Andhra Pradesh), Goa, Kottayam (Kerala) and Puducherry. Net sales, profit up The company has posted a 25 per cent increase (year-on-year) in net sales at Rs 3,264 crore. Net profit rose 68 per cent to Rs 150 crore. Mr Varghese says the driver of growth this quarter has been the replacement market. According to an analyst, the after-market sales give pricing power to companies, enabling them to post high margins. Rubber prices have also cooled off substantially, from the peak of Rs 240 a kg to Rs 190 now. This has had a positive impact on operating margins which have grown from 8.4 per cent a year ago to 10 per cent now. MRF's share price was down 1.77 per cent to close at Rs 11,234.20 on the BSE on Thursday. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/...ref=wl_economy |

BHEL's registration of tier-II vendors expands scope for enhancing output
BHEL, Tiruchi, has agreed to register tier-II vendor units in Tiruchi, paving way for growth of output through ancillary industries, according to Rajappa Rajkumar, president of BHEL Small Industries' Association (BHELSIA).
Work load for the tier-II micro-units would be provided by the tier-I industries. BHEL's vendors in Tiruchi have been set an output target of three lakh tonnes against two lakh tonnes set for away centre fabricators, he said recently, at a follow up meeting conducted by the R.K entrepreneurship and skill development centre and Periyar Technology Business Incubator (TBI) for their entrepreneurship development programmes (EDP) and entrepreneurship and skill development program (ESDP). Quality-conscious customers of BHEL, Tiruchi, favoured the outsourcing works to be done in Tiruchi, he said distributing certificates to participants of the training programmes sponsored by the National science and technology entrepreneurship development Board(NSTEDB) and ESDP were sponsored by National institute for micro, small and medium entrepreneurship (nimsme). The EDPs was conducted for SC beneficiaries by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of Tamil Nadu at Shivani Engineering College. S.Kandasamy, General Manager, District Industries' Centre, also joined Mr.Rajappa Rajkumar in distributing the certificates to the participants of the programme in the presence of the Project Director of Periyar Technology Business Incubator C.Ramaswamy Desai, S.Vigneswaran, Secretary, Shivani Group of Institutions, and N.Kanagasabapathy, Managing Trustee of R.K.Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre. Mr.Kandasamy said a subsidy amount of Rs.52.5 lakh has been allotted for Tiruchi district this year under Unemployed Youth Employment Generation Programme, and informed that the much awaited Prime Ministers Employment Guarantee Programme has been introduced this year. A beneficiary of PMEGP is entitled to a maximum loan of Rs.50 lakh with Rs.17.5 lakh subsidy component, he said. -MRR/T.P |

Wind power gives breather to BHELSIA units
Power generation from wind mills over the last few days has enabled the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the immense relief of industries in the region.
Industries, particularly ancillaries of BHEL, Tiruchi, hope that the power situation will smoothen in the near future with the onset of windy season and the scope for the State to augment its power position with its share from the Kudankulam nuclear power plant shortly. Pushed to the wall, vendors of BHEL have for so long been operating their units with diesel generator sets at times of power cuts, spending heavily on fuel, in order to ensure continuity of work. The units will still have to utilise diesel generator sets since they have to abide by the peak hour restriction from 6.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. “Lifting of peak hour restriction will facilitate enhancement of productivity significantly,” BHELSIA president Rajappa Rajkumar said, requesting the State government to strengthen the grid for diverting wind power effectively. Having suffered heavy productivity losses in the last few years, the vendors are now able to entertain hopes of fulfilling their commitment to the BHEL, Tiruchi, to complete 60 per cent of outsourcing target in the first six months. The BHELSIA has been set a target of 3 lakh tonnes during 2012-13. By September the output should exceed the level of 1.8 lakh tonnes. The target is higher in the first six months as the latter part of the fiscal will witness several holidays on account of festivals. An exclusive industrial park at Pudukudi that the BHELSIA is in the process of establishing will also contribute a sizeable share of the production target, Mr.Rajappa Rajkumar said. Procurement of land was now underway and 18 units are to be established in the 100 acre industrial park. Ten acres will be a common facility area, the BHELSIA president said, adding that the SBI has come forward to fund 90 per cent of the project cost. The units in the industrial park will adopt the away centre model of outsourcing business whereby they would procure raw materials by themselves and deliver pressure-part components for ultra super critical boilers to BHEL, Tiruchi. ![]() The Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, B.Prasada Rao, reviewed the ongoing projects at the public sector major's Tiruchi unit on Thursday. Mr.Rao also inaugurated a high productive CNC Horizontal Boring Machine used for production of high pressure valves as part of Phase –III capacity augmentation scheme at Valves Shop of the BHEL here, according to a BHEL press release.
