Who knows it might even have given the cable car a boost.

Hey after going to the O2 lets go to the aquarium and we can ride the cable car. Sounds a bit more plausible than hey after going to the O2 lets get the cable car to a windswept dock full of dull apartment blocks

Even our national aquarium here in Plymouth isn't great. I went a few weeks back and was really disappointed... there just wasn't a lot to see and there was a massive lack of fish (maybe they moved them all to the Heron Tower's tank.) Even the Sea Life Centre in Yarmouth was more exciting tbh. A huge new aquarium in London would definitely make a lot of sense.

The Deep in Hull is meant to be pretty good. Weymouths is great too, it's a big open thing like a Theme Park.

Portsmouths is good for its size, and Brightons looks immense.

What are these 'business pavilion pods' that scheme talks about?

More pictures and information from the Architects Journal:

http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/daily-news/ahmm-and-arup-land-12-billion-silvertown-quays-jackpot/8621674.article

Described as a ‘pavilion’ plan, the Chelsfield proposals will see the waterside plot turned into a ‘cluster for technology, medical and brand companies’ and feature a mix of education facilities, offices, shops and homes.

Arup and Imagination Europe are acting as masterplanners on the huge scheme. Arup has also drawn up plans for most of the proposed ‘pavilions’ with the exception of the existing, waterfront Millennium Mills building which is being converted into a mixed-use scheme by AHMM.

The AJ understands more practices will be brought in as the scheme progresses.

A spokesman for Chelsfield said: ‘A new destination for London will be created with the public able to understand science, technology and brand in each pavilion, which will contain a mixture of sales, education, research and innovation centres. Surrounding the cluster will be a variety of housing areas to make this site truly mixed use.’

Office blocks in plain English.

I'm sure the these glowing glass cubes look cool, but they seem to have no means of support or even floors. I'm skeptical that it will look so sci fi reality.

What we'll end up with some wonky glass cubes.

While it's ambitious to propose such a lot employment space I'm not sure they will attract occupiers. To attract occupiers the area needs good transport and an attractive setting.

as the site is not next to crossrail station, it's not exactly well located.

Occupiers either want to be in the centre of the action of Central London or in a trendy neighbourhood where there staff feel they are living the metropolitan life. If they don't care for that then they are next to major transport routes.

For the Docks to establish it self as a viable location then it needs to build up it's local population of well off and skilled professionals. Once Minoco wharf etc are developed and there are another 20,000 people living here then demand for local services will increase and small office suites and business space will increase. Once you have a proper 'London village' then they will have a better chance of attracting bigger companies.

Have you visited it recently? The problem is that it is rundown and definitely not something anyone would call 'World Class'.

Indeed, should defaintly give a nice entrance; the only thing that is letting it down is the old pub and burnt down warehouse which is next to the pump house project. Any body know whats going on with that piece of land?

Galliford Try bags £100m affordable housing haul.

The first contract, worth £23m, won by the company’s partnerships division, is related to the development of the Gallions Quarter in east London.

Work under this contract includes construction of 170 homes in the second phase of the 700-home development, which also includes commercial and retail premises as part of a major regeneration programme of the area commissioned by the London Development Agency.

really? I disagree the development is miles ahead of the usual rubbish offered and if you look at the development in detail its really rather refreshing contemporary and nicely designed.

Reminds me of the incomplete towers in Cairo and the like with squatters in them.
