My mindset is a little different in this regard anyway. I don't get excited by huge malls and a lot of retail. I get excited about more buildings over 500 feet tall being built here in Miami. I think we have enough in the 400-500 feet range.

I get exited when I see that every block is built with the highest density possible (and largest height as well). I would love for every single space left empty or run down in downtown be filled with wall-to wall skyscrapers

I dunno. To me, that sounds a bit like the Sao Paulo model of urbanity (yuck).

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be on a site like this if I didn't find things like density and skyscarpers exciting but I can't think of a single great city that doesn't ALSO have a lot of great green spaces and public squares on a very human scale.

Can you?

Skyscrapercity should provide scholarships to send its forumers first to Dubai, Sao Paulo, and Panama City, and then to Vancouver, Copenhagen, and Tel Aviv. I think many of the discussions here would have a decidedly different tone if people spent more time existing in the spaces we talk so much about.

It is much more fun to live in a city than to look at a city. Although, Miami is pretty beautiful to look at.

I agree, many of the discussions here would have a decidedly different tone if people spent more time existing in the spaces we talk so much about.

I dunno, I think we'd all do better if we just made more snap judgement's about downtown areas from the armchairs in our suburban homes. Oh and about mass transit when we've never even been on a bus in our lives (ok maybe once or twice, cause we HAD too) and certainly not having ever taken a subway/metrorail car to work once in our lives.

Lols... I feel you guys just seem to go off for the fact that there are lots of unfilled lots right next to downtown (an area that until now has been very much run-down) that I said could be filled with something of at least a decent density, so as to make good use of the land. I abhorr how we have huge condos right next to large vacant lots and then run down neighborhoods... I just don't like that unused potential, and I don't know how you could still say I "haven't lived the city" I'm talking about..... oh please.

And yes... I had to take two buses on my way back home for an entire year. I cannot tell you how frustrated I became with Miami's sub-par transit system. It was f*cking horrible to be on a bus right about to get off on Flagler and see that your OTHER bus would just leave without waiting for you to cross the street.... and then wait two hours... yes, TWO hours under the scorching sun to get the next one (after 4:20 somethingish) right when you had already waited an hour and a half to get to your second bus stop. That happened 3 out of five days in the workweek. I won't even capitalize on the numerous occasions when the bus would be late by an hour or an hour and a half. I mean its fine when it happens once.

I find that time of day to be the most relaxing, with the setting angle of the sun making everything look vivid and colorful.

That's what you mean, right?

I relate that time more with horrible traffic, depressing end of the day for the oveworked and underpaid, and of course, the bus that was always late to take me home........ nothing can be more frustrating now than that "angle" of the sun at 4:20 somethingish xD
