Has bags of character hasn't it.Really does look like a place that has a great atmosphere.Football will be the worse off for losing these type of stadiums.
The match there against Man u should be good.Hopefully Athletic will surprise em. |

Don´t know why, it makes me think more about the Sporting Portugal stadium. Which I like. Still think it´s a shame though.

It is a fantastic stadium, I know they have got to move forward but it is such a loss to football.
The best left in Spain is now El Molinon, Sporting Gijon.

I went to the game, and i had this view to the match, they have to make some changes here, it gives a bad idea of this great stadium
![]() (it's not mine) and Ertzaintza... real bastards ![]() Nevertheless, I love the stadium, it's one of my favourite in Europe, it is, as locals said, "The Cathedral", and the supporters.. for sure the best i ever seen. When the referee blew his whistle, fans celebrate their passage to the final, but at the same time applauding us, Sporting supporters. But what surprised me the most was the way out, thousands of Athletic fans clapping us, yelling for "Esporting", asking to exchange sweaters and scarves, hugging us (even some girls giving kisses ) was unbelievable! One of the best moments I watched in my entire life, this is football, this is fair play.Go Bilbau |

Fantastic to hear that...it was indeed a tough loss for us Sporting fans but glad it was to the team it was and to their amazing supporters.Since the Schalke match I´ve noticed they have quite a clever place to put the away fans...on the highlights I´ve watched I noticed, on the quick image of the Schalke fans they showed, that they were basically hidden under the second tier The stadium is about to go down in a couple of years so I assume the away fans placement will be improved a lot. And good luck for the final....Aupa Athletic

Farewell to San Mamés
(6/5/2013): The very last game ever played in the old stadium was held today. Athletic Club was defeated 0-1 to a Biscay regional team, but it doesn't matter. The crowd was cheering, singing and celebrating during the whole game. Finally, legendary players such as goalkeeper Iribar(60-70s), striker Dani(80s), or midfielder Julen Guerrero(90s) were invited to join the team in the pitch during the last minutes of the match. After the game, an emotive farewell ceremony took place, involving live music by Bilbao's choir, fireworks, and lightning effects: Pics from digital newspaper www.elcorreo.com: ![]() ![]() ![]() Good bye , San Mamés (1913-2013).
