So I've convinced my family to finally come with me to experience New York, in June. It will be six people, two large dogs, my car and my dad's minivan. Our hotel budget will be around $4k, and we will be staying for three nights. Given that information, would anyone here be able to recommend me a hotel? I have no objections to any of the outer boroughs (except Staten Island). Jersey is a possibility, but I really would prefer to stay in the city, Brooklyn especially.
Our biggest concern are our two large dogs and two vehicles (ah the joys of being raised in a suburban household) ![]() Thanks to whoever!

Walk across the Williamsburg bridge and check out the Hascidic Jew area and the new gentrified/bohemiam area. Then all the regular tourist spots including the Roosevelt Island tram and the rooftop bar at 230 Fifth Avenue at night. Make sure you walk a lot |

Not that I am aware of - though there are Persian restaraunts.
The area with the most people from Iran is actually on Long Island - Great Neck I think. I think many wealthy Iranians fled to that area after the revolution. But it is a very rich, leafy suburb and I doubt you'd see any Iranian influence just walking around it. If you want to bump into Iranian people who live here the best bet is finding a Persian restaraunt or super market. |

When is the new World Trade Center supposed to open officially? Is there a date set yet? I want to come and take pictures from the observation deck.

February is usually pretty cold. Wikipedia has the average high temp at 42 degrees F, or 5.8 C, and the average low is about 28 F, or -1.7C. But, that doesn't include the wind chill which given NY's relationship to water, can be very significant. So it may actually be 40 out, but because of the wind, feel like 30 or something. It's not bad, just depends on what you're definition of 'too cold' is. Just pack some gloves and you'll be alright.

Thanks. Well that sounds not too freezy. But I think that "ny wind" could be a big deal. I´ve visited NY in summer, but I winter is like ... a must see.

Definitely you need to be prepared for very cold weather and have plenty of heavy clothing, dress in layers, a winter hat and gloves, boots (after it snows everything turns to slush and it is a huge mess), etc. It is possible you could bring all that stuff and not use it - but better to be prepared. You don't want to be miserable walking around Manhattan. I just had visiters from Milan Italy here and they were very unpleasently surprised at how cold NY was even now in November. They weren't prepared and it detracted from their trip. |

If already mentioned in this topic: please forgive me for asking.
Is it possible to stay in an apartmenty during your vacation stay in the city and are there reliable companies you can turn to? We are planing a visit for September 2013. And staying in a hotel with 4 adults and a child may be tricky as we would like adjacent rooms. Perhaps staying in an apartment would be just as easy.

Is the Museum of Sex worth it?
Is Pommes Frites worth it? Is going to the top of the Empire State Building worth it? And Guggenheim or MOMA? Thanks!

Hey hello! I-m visiting NYC on Summer-Fall next year, and I-m wondering about gay places, I know about that Greenwich Village and Chelsea are the gay villages, but i would like to know gay bars, or nightclubs, I have friends there but, just in case Im alone one day, so if anyone could help me with gay places, in Manhattan only, that would be great

Empire State Bulding: I suggest you go to TOP OF THE ROCK (Rockfellar Center Observation Deck) and NOT the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING (unless you want to go through security clearance and stand in line for 3 hours to finally reach the top) Pommes Frites= Not a big deal but pretty BIG with the locals...especially drunk students near NYU love eating this after a night out drinking along with some pizza at Artichoke Basille Guggenheim= Not my taste, thought it was boring. Glad I came on Free Admission Day. MoMa is MUCH more interesting and nicer...along with an outdoor cafe. Trust me, I know...afterall I'm an Elite Yelper currently living in the city for 6 years now and counting...hope that helped...have fun!!
