Some of those buildings are properly ugly, though.

Really beautiful reflection...lovely shot imo.

ps: that's a pity to imagine that The Place is gonna hide the Shard's bottom...(at least from this angle)

Hi guys, first time posting. I'm a photographer and a skyscraper lover living just down the road from the shard. I was wondering, do you guys think they will fill in the areas behind the "shards" at the top? In the early renders (page one and two) this area appears to be glassed in too. Right now it looks kind of cagey and dark behind the main shards.

In this shot you can see the dark boxy structure behind the shard. Hopefully some creative lighting or darker glass would be introduced to cover it?

Going all the way back to December in this shot, Shard without her shards.

Further Back in time we have the stump (March 2011), and finally...

Welcome John. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

No, what you see it what you get. The only way the space behind the shards could be enhanced is if they added a lighting scheme during the day, which is unlikely as most the spire space is unused/ un manned.

There is however a lighting scheme for the spire at night. I personally have not see this, but I've heard it's quite a site.

Welcome, SE1 John. Thank you for your excellent photos from a great range of locations. Not quite sure what the boxy bit is you refer to, but the lighting scheme appears to be a work in progress so let's see what they come up with.

So Shard is number 55-59 tallest conpleted building in the world.
I recall WILL saying (about 18 months ago) it wouldn't even make the top 150.

http://www.emporis.com/statistics/wo...lest-buildings

Furthermore,less than 30 are 50m + higher than shard.

That's pretty good going, seeing as most of those are in Dubai or Hong Kong, it seems. Only 4 completed buildings in NYC are taller.

And three of those four are spire cheats. Only the Empire State Building has a higher top floor than the Shard. Of course that is a bit harsh on The Chrysler Building and the Bank of America Tower, but damn it, the New York Times building is a real cheat. It is only taller than the Shard in the same way that Heron Tower will be taller than the Leadenhall building when that is complete. The Chrysler Building and Bank of America Tower both have architectural spires like the Shard, so it is only fair that they are listed as being taller. But the New York Times building just stuck a massive pole on the top and claims to be a supertall..

Having enjoyed the fantastic photos of the building of the Shard on this thread, I can finally contribute with a few shots of my own from a short rainy holiday in London the last few days.

Love that photo of the Shard with the Tower of London in the foreground. Old and new side by side - it's what makes London so special. If English heritage saw that photo they would be in hysterics!
