I was really looking forward to seeing Himeji Castle in all its glory, imagine my disappointment when I was greeted with this sight

Anyone wondering what that wavy, banding type artifact that's present in a lot of my pics, you can see it in the blue sky in this pic, well it's Neat Image's idea of noise reduction. I've tried to get rid of it but to no avail. I won't be using it again. Typically with point and shoot camera's you get quite a bit of grainy noise which I was trying to minimize using Neat Image. I think I'll stick with photoshop. It certainly isn't present in the original pics so it's definitely not the camera.

Engyo-ji

Ropeway ride to the top. 781m ride to the 210m mark of Mt Shosha. It's not the summit though which is another 161m up and about a 1km hike from the ropeway station

Free rental? Bit of an oxymoron I think

The temple was used as a location for parts of the 2003 film The Last Samurai. An old monk spent several minutes eagerly recounting the time Tom Cruise filmed several scenes within the temple complex

You can see several artists painting on the verandah

Day 16 - Hiroshima & Miyajima Island

Hiroshima is a little under three hours from Osaka via the Shinkansen. Again I chose a hotel close to the main Shinkansen station in Hiroshima. I was there for two nights but didn't get into the city until around 9pm so pretty much just crashed as I had a big day ahead of me as you'll soon see

Miyajima
The JR Rail Pass covered my whole trip to Miyajima, transport wise. 'Free' rail, ferry and ropeway. It also covers all trams in Hiroshima.

This statue stands in front of the ferry terminal

It's not the longest ferry ride in the world, which is good if you tend to get sea sick....which luckily I don't. Oh, that's me in the pink shirt

Itsukushima Shrine's famous floating torii gate, as seen from the ferry. It's world hertiage listed, designated a national treasure and is one of the most popular attractions in all of Japan. It's fully exposed at low tide.
