I hated to hate that group, since I have so much respect for their cause. Now I feel better knowing that your rights are reserved, and that the admin is a cool guy... You should consider watermarking your pictures, because intellectual property is not an issue taken seriously here, even though lots are trying their best to respect it. I'm thinking of doing that with my pictures (not sure yet), but I hate the "destructive" watermarks. I'll try to keep it as bearable as possible (if applied). Btw, nice shot you got there. You can find a gazillion pictures for Zaitunay Bay, but only this one is that smart!

You can get as fancy or as simple as you want with a watermark, but to keep it simple, you can open your image in Photoshop and add a small text containing you name and maybe a "© 1969" following it (then post it in the "old Lebanon-rare pictures" thread!). To prevent it from getting what I call "destructive", keep it in the lower corner, and keep the size small, yet visible/readable.
Alternatively, if you don't have Photoshop (or Gimp, the free Photoshop alternative), or maybe if you're uncomfortable using it, you can go to picmarkr.com page, upload your photo and get them watermark it for you automatically. However, using this method will limit you to the available presets that they have. (not that you need more to simply protect your pictures anyway) If you or anyone else feel that this information is still inadequate, and want an in-depth step-by-step tutorial on how to apply watermarks whether simple or sophisticated ones, please don't hesitate to ask and I will make a tutorial in an appropriate thread. (maybe in "Your Own Photography" by Popsi) PS: to make the "©" (copyrighted material) symbol, hold "alt" and type 0169 in this order on your numpad (not the numbers on top of the keyboard)..Or you can simply copy and paste this one...DUH! Hope this helps..

or, if your not making a living out of it, get a creative commons license, it's an free to share license where you can specify, if you want, the none lucrative character of your work. Google it, its where the digital and open access world is heading ...

Even still, would you promote an item as your own where in fact it is the property of another? I think you've missed the point..
As I mentioned earlier, it's no big deal for someone to use a property without accrediting it's original author, but putting your name on it is ethically not right. If you look at Zippo's screen shot from the "Phoenician port .." group you'd see the image was clearly stating that the image was "by xxx" |

Looks to me like the Phoenician group has just quoted the post in the preceeding post on Beirut Heritage. "By xxx" it likely meant "posted by xxx"
I think one should refrain from sharing pictures in "public" forums as they will technically become accessible to everyone. Or perhaps one can instead simply state the ownership beneath their pics posted and notify the community of exceptional permitted usage ![]() Afterall, they have been shared publicly and its not often for people to reference their posting on fsocial sites, unintentionally in most cases. Jeez chill people, I know lebanese are warm blooded anyways

I believe, to be just, things need to be clarified one last time before we move on with this thread and bury this issue behind, once and for all.
The image was first posted by "Wissam M.H." in the "Zaitunay Bay" Facebook group keeping all the rights reserved to Rabih by explicitly stating that the image was "Courtesy of Rabih (skyscrapercity.com)". Up until now, everything is totally fine. "Wissam M.H." submitted the image to the admin of the "Phoenician Port of Beirut" Facebook group, in a private message, stating that the submitted image was "courtesy of Rabih (skyscrapercity.com)". Also, everything is fine up until now. The admin of "Phoenician Port of Beirut" didn't pay much attention to the message, and rushed to post the image stating that it was by "Wissam M.H.", and here's where the issue started. When Rabih commented on the image and claimed his rights, the admin immediately replied, apologized to Rabih, tried to explain briefly what happened, then corrected his mistake, with a smile I should add. See here: Convo: ![]() Correction/result: ![]() Please keep in mind that the admin of the FB group, even though he did a mistake, but he wasn't like using the image commercially or for personal benefit for example, unlike my case with "EyeCandy Concepts" and "Plus Towers", where they harvested tens of thousands of dollars out of my work, and didn't correct it! Conclusion: - "Wissam M.H." did NOTHING wrong. - The admin of the "Phoenician Port of Beirut" Facebook group made a mistake (not with bad intentions I presume), but then corrected it. - Rabih's rights are reserved currently, and everything is back to track. - I already wasted like half an hour or so, and I should leave immediately and get back to work. - the above conclusion is unrelated I think! :P

Hey everyone. I'm curious about something.
What are the chances of future land reclamation along the coastline of Beirut? I'm thinking that they could reclaim additional land farther east of the Beirut Marina and the Beirut Port. What do you guys think? |
