Guys, a quick question if I may...

Me and a group of my friends are going for a trip to Slovenia, particulary I'll spend a day (this friday to be precise) in the magnificent city of Ljubljana. There is however one thing that bugs me the most: public transport.

I know that you have to buy this Urbana card thing to use a bus in the city and that it cost 2€. We will be traveling in 4 people and we will spend only a day in the city. so I thought that it would be cheaper and wiser to buy only one Urbana card. The LPP webpage states that if you are travelling in a group it is possible to buy more than one of those 90 min ticket using one card and you have to ask the driver to do this. But how does it work in the practice? And how does it work when you change buses - do you check out with the card as usual and in the new bus you tell the driver that you want to continue journey using those 4 active tickets you already have on your card? Or is it enough to check in 'usually' in the new bus and the card reader will recognise all the tickets?

And the ususual second question: I have some ideas what to do in the city in this single day, but I'm keen to hear some insider tips

And the third question: Any good webpage with the conditions of mountain trails in Bohinj region? I'd like to know if there are any patches of snow left, if any of the trails are closed and such things

Hi

You and your friends go on the bus and BEFORE(!!!!!!) you check your Urbana card, you MUST tell the driver how many tickets you need. He will then push some buttons on the card reader and you will pay for all 4 tickets you need by pressing your Urbana card on the card reader. If you check Urbana card BEFORE the driver changes settings, you will not be able to pay for more than one passenger for the next 90 minutes! Be carefull about that!

When you go to the next bus, just tell the driver you have paid for 4 people before and he will see that on the card reader screen and there will be no troubles.

There's bound to be some snow left in higher altitudes, but will you have the necessary equipment with you? You will need warm clothes, because it is still quite cold in the mountains and proper hiking boots.

Otherwise I suggest you check this website for weather in the mountains:

http://vreme.zurnal24.si/prosti-cas/gore/ pick a mountain (goro), select a day (danes = today, jutri = tomorrow, petek = friday, sobota = saturday, nedelja = sunday, ponedeljek = monday, torek = tuesdy), and time of day (naslednja ura = next hour, popoldan = afternoon, zvečer = evening)

And try www.pzs.si/forum for conditions for the exact trail you want (it is the official forum of the Mountaineering Association of Slovenia

Also www.meteo.si/met/en for weather information in English

And http://www.slovenia.info/en/Hiking.h...nistvo=0&lng=2 might have some useful information for you

Thanks, guys

The ticket system in Ljubljana now seems simple enough, I think I'll manage.

kreden, don't worry, we have proper equipment and some experience with mountains in May. The weather seems to be crappy though, which is a pity - I was really looking forward to some Slovenian mountaineering. Well, we'll see

Sorry, we get many people who go into the mountains completely unprepared and then get into all sorts of trouble.

Yes, unfortunately the weather doesn't seem to be very good this week, which is a shame. About Ljubljana, have you been here before or is it your first time?

Also, exactly which day will you be spending in Ljubljana? What goes on in the city (obviously) really depends on the day.

Pozdrav svima! Nadam se da ne moram pisati na engleskom

Zanima me samo, postoji li u Ljubljani igdje besplatni parking?

hello guys,
I'm from Argentina, in Spain at the moment and planning to visit your country soon.
I'd like to go to the Alps, and I want to ask you if you know if it's easy to get there from Ljubljana, if it's better to travel by train or bus, and also if it's viable to hitchike or it's not done at all. Also if you know other good places to visit besides the Alps I'm open.
Thanks a lot,
Eric

Taking the bus would be the better option. Hitchiking could be done but... I wouldnt bet on it personally. You can always visit the seaside, or just the entire country seeing as how small it is.

I would sugget that you take the bus to lake Bohinj and Bled and/or try to find a guided tour of the alps on the internet.

Eventhough Slovenia has the lowest crime rate in Europe (next to Iceland) and there's no fear of getting mugged, hitchiking is very rare in the country so you might have trouble getting a ride, the bus is preferable.

I would also suggest that you take a tour of the Slovenian Karst, which is approx. 30 minutes away from Ljubljana by highway (the Postojna and/or Škocjan caves), and then further towards the seaside to check the picturesque towns along the coast.

A tour of Ljubljana is of course "a must".

I hope you enjoy your stay.

I would just like to add that if you do want to save some money on public transport, carsharing is a better option than hitchhiking. All you pay for is your share of the gas. In Slovenia www.prevoz.org is a very popular and widely used carsharing website.
