the color of the textured rubber is ugly and the pattern is so outdated..till now i dont understand what is the motif of the textured rubber, what are they trying to tell about the design and who approved that design but the stadium is quite nice

It's the colours of the venues and they're meant to be pops of colour that grab the attention of youth.

well i guess there are so many things in the park to look at, from the orbit to the textured rubber carpets, not just a bird nest stadium

I would agree, to me that the blobs of rubber looks awful, even more so now the blob like pods are no longer, they would have sat nicely together and I assume that one was designed with the other in mind. But at least it is only temporary and they're a bit of fun for the kids.

I tend to agree with you Archilover... that colouring etc already looks outdated... its trying too hard to be cool and 'yuf' like.... a pastiche to what is essentially an honest stadium....

The fact is that you will never get Orbit in 2D," Balmond says. "Its richness and its over-layers can look excessive to a certain kind of mind. But 3D and the scale are the only way to judge the piece. Even then, it's a tough aesthetic for some."
For those that have seen it in person, would you say this is the case?

But ouch. Just look at the comments section.

Balmond recalls: "Someone from the mayor's office said to me, 'Do you know the budget?' And I didn't. She said it was around £25m. And I thought, 'Oh Christ!' Because what we had I knew would cost £50m to £80m. So straight away we brought it down to as low as we could go and still get a good sightline into the stadium: 115 metres."
Thats something I didn't know... shame.

To be fair, Guardian comments are always like that.

Was hoping close up this would suddenly make sense and I'd like it. Sorry to say that wasn't the case, and as well as looking incredibly messy in terms of its overall execution, it's actually smaller than I expected.

Here's a couple of shots I managed to get anyway:

I honestly can't think of many things I actually like about this Olympic games

Everything has obviously been done by committee, leaving us with unpalatable "progressive" monstrosities like that orbit tower, the horrible little alien mascots and the abominable logo plastered along with the rest of the poorly designed aesthetics

Some of the venue's are passable (e.g the velodrome), but for the most part it's just been a cacophony of crap.

Where's our birds nest stadium? etc
