That food/market square idea was from the original plans, but I think it was binned a while ago. There will be retail units at the front, then resturant units at the back. Draft ideas have been sketched about a building further up Seel St, to complete the plot, but nothing concrete is no the table yet. You never know then, I suppose. The idea might resurface.

I had another read of the article relating to the glazing to be installed on the Seel Street corner. Apparently the panels will celebrate the former industries of the area including ropemaking and nautical and there will be some old maps.

The new panels were installed to day, right place right time, as mentioned preiviously they celebrate the former industries of the area including ropemaking and nautical and there will be some old maps.
I was talking to the artist (Sasha Ward) who designed the panels she was there to watch here work being installed.
These panels are called Architectural Glass.

Some Pics & Video....

The deign is similar to the panels on Tesco's side wall

Considering this is just a budget Premier Inn, they've really put some effort into the design of it. The fact that they even hired an artist in the first place is something of an achievement.

Chris, thanks for your excellent update. This corner flourish should look very interesting, with 3 glass finishes. Clear, opaque and graphic , just needs a clever LED back illumination to become a real "standout" feature of Hanover St.

Just to be awkward, I'm not sure I like the fact that the graphic only extends 2 panels in width. It should cover all of the glazing panels as the ones on the far right just look out of place with nothing on them.

Trouble is that the Chinese have cornered the market on old Liverpool street maps double glazing and so it is pretty expensive nowadays. Probably if they get enough people to fill the hotel they will buy a few more panels.

The transformation of Hanover Street - pre-L1 to now is incredible.

L1 has been an overwhelming success i remember all the bad publicity around the development. The others parts of the city would die off the units would all be empty no demand for them too close to the trafford centre etc etc.Similar to the Liverpool waters scheme now all bullshit.Remember some of the older Liverpool posters saying "build them and people will come" and they were right.

I'm following everything on here from abroad, and I'm really interested in how this one is going. Any more photos? The glass panels must all be finished now. How does it look?

Last time I was around there, last wednesday, there didn't look like much had happened, maybe one extra panel or two. Progress seems slow, it may have been quicker this week though.

Not really. I passed the other day and it seems they have shifted their emphasis to the back of the site.

Glass panels on the corner are as they were about a fortnight back. Seel St elevation brickwork almost complete and windows installed. Some long, vertical, dark, glazed units installed in the rear but no brickwork on that elevation as yet.
