I love that kind of architecture. It just doesnt get much better than that for me. The colours, the style, the detail. Just brilliant.

Inshallah one day I will own a mansion in that style too

Every district in the city looks like a construction zone. Residential houses as well as commercial buildings are making a comeback. Here are some images from one district.

^ Great pics and i'm looking forward to the asphalting of the roads. This coupled with the wider reconstruction effort will make a huge difference to how the city looks & living conditions; and hopefully it will enocourage the diaspora to return and invest.

Many have already returned, and much of the regeneration is stimulated by their influx of foreign currency, be it dollars, dinars, shillings, or euros. The Istanbul Conference however will be the one to watch out for because it will focus on reconstruction, and investment.

But what exactly are the opportunities for locally owned construction companies in the reconstruction effort?

A lot of local businesses are recontructing/regenerating their premesis which creates demand for local contruction companies/workers. Also the diaspora is returning and rebuilding their properties which again creates demand for local contruction companies/workers

Really nice to see. Somalis are very industrious people, many do well and become business owners in the West. There's no reason the country should be in such a state.

Really great work going on in Mogadishu!

I hope the Turks can, apart from doing urban infrastructure in Xamar alone, also think of extending their help to the southern districts: my wish is to see an asphalt road all the way from Kismayu to Liboi, Kenya, to help their neglected brethren across the border. The ensuing crossborder trade will be like no other!

Actually, most of the work in Xamar is done by Somalis themselves. The Turks are still wait and see mode. I agree we need Turkish experts but maal iyo xoog should come from the locals. No need to wait outsiders. I hope the Somali territories on the other-side take matters into their own hands and not wait hand outs from occupying forces.
