Haha, I guess it could do with a bit more (like all these new areas actually - white and grey? Seriously?). That yellow courtyard, though, is very striking! I am hoping that they'll keep it.

Liljeholmen is really starting to look great! A just can't wait for the four high rises to elevate at the quay. It would be awesome if the convex curved block at Sjöviksbacken got a neighbouring concave curved block on the other side of the street.

Yeah Liljeholmen is becoming a much more "inner-city" feeling area with all the public transport connections and development in the area. If only they found a way to deal with the roads in the area it will be a lot better.

You're welcome. I'm just glad people like the updates. I know it's not much, but it helps keep this section a bit alive.

Perhaps when my Swedish improves a bit more I'll be able to actually go looking for upcoming projects on websites too!

I was in Nacka and Nacka strand today. The redeveloped industrial area with whole the district located on the rocky coastline with some beautiful views to the water and islands is realy something. Not mentioning seing large ships passing by. Liked that area very much.
Perhaps, i did not manage to take many pictures of the area, but will visit that place again for sure.

That is a pleasant surprise to hear. I've always thought of Nacka as suburban hell, but your post makes me want to venture onto a bus (gasp) and visit now to see for myself.

Nice to know that my comment has given you some ideas and/or inspiration.
As far as i know, Nacka is a district of Stockholm and is not complicated to reach it by almost any mean of transport (except metro). I, myself, went there using a light rail Saltsjöbanan (from Slussen) till one of the stops that follows after Hammarby district and then walked for quite a long time. Alternatively, it is much easier to just catch a direct bus to Nacka Strand at Slussen.
The post-industrial Nacka Strand looks very cozy and interesting, but Nacka itself doesn't seem to be too different from other districts in the city. However, i should mention that Nacka wasn't the exact destination of my excoursion.
This complex is interestingly developed - there are plenty of terases and stairs on the way down to the well-established bay with a restaurant and fountain:

Of course, the one will not miss a beautiful overview over the archipelago and quite a large bay where plenty of ships go back and forth (including the large ferry ones).

Tomorrow, you have the chance to go underground and have a look at the City banan tunnels.

Great update! I like that the building looks quite massive and urban, however the facade is rather simple. It seems that the other option looked more nice:

By the way, finally i found a picture that illustrates the simplicity in Swedish/Scandinavian architecture pretty well () - Årsta area:

Stockholm - Suburban Landscape by Olof S, on Flickr

Is it funkis design or simply miljonprogrammet style? By the way, are the any news regarding the planned redevelopment?

That's at Valla Torg isn't it? Not the nicest area of Stockholm, no. Still, I really don't think that is representative of Stockholm or Sweden as a whole at all...

Excellent update, K-J N. The hotel really does look like a massive wall!

It sure is funkis. You can see that the buildings are rotated to optimize the sunlight into the apartments.

The thing about "funkis", functional based architecture, is that it's really not that flexible and it gets old as soon as the demand of that functions changes. Most of the funkis buildings are designed for families with a house wifes at home. A typical Swedish family until the 60's/70's. The kitchen, where the wife was supposed to be in the daytime, are exposed to sunshine during the daytime hours and has a lot of "well-doing" green landscape. Likewise, the surrounding area are planned for a perfect stroll with the buggy in the park.

The big problem with the kind of buildings that you mentioned is IMO not the inbuilt inflexibility, but the modernistic city planning that is the context of these buildings. With dead ends and large parking spaces, SCAFT-planned traffic infrastructure and a L O T of green plots of dead urban spaces that are the result of the rotated buildings and the "no-shadows-on-the-buildings-striving", this areas are really not supporting a effective use of resources nor contributing to an attractive or secure local area.

Swedish Music Hall of Fame is being built on the spot where the now demolished Lindgården was situated. Does anyone have any renders on the building?
