I really hope Allied London / Clarence Dock is awadred the licence. CD has so much potential if developed in the right way. A casino located there would really give it the much needed boost that it needs.

Yes it's the same casino at Clarence Dock, but they want to put more slot machines etc in the space.

I'm actually now starting to like the idea of a new casino at Quarry Hill. I've always thought the city centre should be extended eastwards. Would really liven up that side of the city and possibly be the catalyst for further development at Quarry Hill and the surrounding area.

A date as finally been set for deciding where to site Leeds's large casino which will take place a week this Friday: http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.u...ling-1-5654558
Surely it must be Eastgate winning the bid considering a casino sited in the city centre is more likely to be viable as opposed to one out at Elland Road. Also where are both casinos proposed in relation to Eastgate and Elland Road stadium (is the latter still apparently part of a redeveloped West Stand which I can't see taking place any time soon) and is there a chance that the council could suddenly award this casino to an alternative site not previously part of the bid (ala Leeds Arena) or cancel plans completely for a large casino in Leeds? Is there any word on the future of the former Alea in Clarence Dock? |

Got to say, it just gets more and more exciting how Leeds really is coming back so strong with major new developments since the recession.
Hope they choose VG for the casino as a city centre will help re-inforce the pull into the city with a vibrant daytime and nightime economy |

They seem to be doing a good job to me. For example the decision to locate the arena in the city centre and stuff Jan Fletcher in the process was a great move.

The Labour group were against the development of the arena, I remember them calling a vote to ensure the money was split equally between all the council wards, like Bradford. Thankfully they were defeated. Some of the same Labour councillors now gloat in the delivery of the arena. Andrew Carter's role in delivering the development should be commended.

Announcement of the location for the large casino set for tomorrow Friday 17th:
https://theleedscitizen.wordpress.co...ciding-monday/ Personally really hope they go for Victoria Gate as I think it will have a bigger positive effect on the Leeds economy if located in the city, with restaurants and bars springing up close by. If Elland Road is chosen, it will be a boost for Leeds United, but can't imagine it will be as busy or have as positive an effect on the surrounding area. |

Agreed, although the council seem to be in touch with the need to ensure our centre is strong- hence the arena decision.

Yeah really hope its at Victoria Gate. I think it will be though as Hammerson have created provision for it. If its out at Elland Road I can see it being a failure and closing.

And what's the chance of it actually getting built at Elland Road if it did get it?

Being a big Leeds United fan I wouldn't mind either way, obviously its going to be of a much greater benefit economically if its located in the centre, but if they choose Elland Road the club will get a shiny new West Stand for free

One problem of putting at Elland Road would be surely limited business due to the fact it's near limited regular bus routes and no rail connection. An establishment that wants people to drink isn't going to do as well on a site which is so car-orientated.
On the other hand, there could be a decision to put it there if LCC suspect it will be a generator of anti-social behaviour.

It would be a folly for the licence to be awarded to Leeds United. Leeds United's ability to progress the development is questionable given their financial history and their defaulting on their previous debts. The new owners seem to want to palm the club off as fast as possible now they have realised a profit on their initial investment.
Would you really get visitors from outside Leeds traipsing to Beeston to visit the casino? Hopefully the council will see sense and award the licence to Hammerson, a company with the financial clout to deliver. |

It wouldn't be LUFC progressing it, it would be a 3rd party who pick up the tab for the stand as a means of acquiring space to utilise the licence, which will be held by the football club.

So assuming Elland Road wins the casino bid, does this mean that a new West stand will be built irrespective of whether Leeds United are playing in the Premier League or Championship considering a larger stand would be a bit pointless in Leeds's current state considering average attendances much lower than the current 37,900 capacity? Still a new West Stand is certainly needed in the long run (considering the tiredness of the existing 1950s structure) although personally I would rather have this new casino in the city centre where it will surely be much better used and I certainly would trust Hammerson as opposed to LUFC to actually deliver this proposed casino.
