Kendu Bay-Homa Bay Road | Nyanza | U/C
President Kibaki will commission a Sh3.4 billion road construction project at Kendu Bay in Nyanza Province. Photo/FILE By NATION ReporterPosted Thursday, July 23 2009 at 17:41 President Kibaki is on Friday set to commission a Sh3.4 billion road construction project at Kendu Bay in Nyanza Province. When complete, the road would unlock high potential fishing and rice investments in the area. The Kendu Bay-Homa Bay road project serves the catchment area where the Regional Development ministry has set up a multi-billion irrigation scheme in partnership with the African Development Bank. The scheme is based at the Olich River. Once the road under construction is complete, cash crops such as pineapples, rice, oranges and other fruits will be introduced to the area. Boost farming The move will also boost fish farming in the region which is a major economic activity along the shores of Lake Victoria, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said in a statement on Thursday. The road project will improve access to the Ruma National Park in the Western Kenya Tourism Circuit being marketed by the Kenya Tourist Board. KeNHA director general Meshack Kidenda said the authority will ensure completion within schedule. KeNHA is charged with maintaining roads up to international standards in a bid to improve economic improvement. “We have a responsibility to ensure that our highways are maintained to the highest standards for the benefit of Kenyans and the economy,” said Mr Kidenda. The government has set aside about Sh8 billion for repair and maintenance of all highways in the country. Donors include the ADB, European Union and the World Bank. |

I have a sister who recently travelled through that area and she says that there is a lot of progress. If I recall, they started the project at both ends - Kendu and Homa, and they are about to met in the middle. There is also a project underway to connect Homa Bay and Mbita. I will try and get some pictures if I can.

![]() I love this ...... very nice pictures. The furthest I have been on that side of the country is Kericho Kisumu road and Agoro Sare (Oyugis). I just love beautiful paved roads. Who was the contractor ??? ![]()

If I am not mistaken, there were at least two contractors for the different sections and and one was Sarajevo Construction. You were not too far from this road when you went to Oyugis. Katito, where the Kendu Bay road junction is, is on your way to Oyugis before you get to Sondu if you are coming from Ahero.

The Chinese company doing the Londiani-Fort Ternan road will also continue on to Koru and Muhoroni. The link below contains some pictures of what they have done to the Koru-Muhoroni stretch. I am also meant to understand that instead of simply doing the Koru-bypass, they will actually tarmac the road leading to Koru township.
