PPA undertakes P86-M port projects in NegOcc

Lambatin Jr. Thursday 31st of May 2012 TweetFacebookYahooEmailShareThis NEGROS OCC., Bacolod City (May 31) -- The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is undertaking engineering projects worth P86 million to improve its various terminal management offices in Negros Occidental, a PPA official said. The renovation of Bacolod Terminal Office costs P58.58 million. This includes a P16.9 million renovation of an old building to become a passenger terminal and construction of ports management office at Banago Port, Brgy. Banago, said PPA Resource Division Manager Fetsy Diamante. A 5,600 square meters causeway is also being renovated at P37.80 million. Also, an existing structure in Banago Port will be rebidded at P3.8 million for a feasibility study and masterplan, which will include siltation and structural stability/analysis. Proposed projects in Banago port include construction of a Roro ramp and a dredging and reclamation of the area and installation of shore power. The projects were presented in a recent meeting of the Negros Association of Government Information Officers. A total amount of P25.96 million will be spent to provide a new passenger terminal building and TMO office in Danao TMO, Escalante City, and repair of its old wharf at P12.5 million. This will include dredging of berths and maneuvering areas and installation of shore power. In the municipality of Hinobaan TMO, the current port was repaired and completed last year at a cost of P17 million as well as the improvement and repair of gate, guardhouse and fence at P490,000. An on-going P1.9 million project in the town intends to renovate the former DPWH building to become its TMO building. It is expected to be completed soon. In San Carlos City TMO, a proposed installation of a shore power and a construction of covered path walk are under study for funding. Port Manager Engr. Enrique Fuentebaja said their over-all goal is passenger comfort and safety and efficient handling of ship activities, during an interview here in a local cable - Premier TV 14. Furthermore, he said the effort to install a shore power is a contribution of the PPA to environment protection because ships can draw a power from the port, thus, eliminating pollution emitted from a running ship. i think amo ni ang sa aguisan...this port should have been intended for use by sonedco and biscom for sugar shipments. daw may problema with the depth kay daw kanabaw.

That port does function minimally but it is important to note that this is the port of call for some boats heading out to Palawan area.
