Seattle MIGHT build an arena. I never count "eventual" projects. Momentum is more about stuff actually happening.
Tower crane went up in my neighborhood this weekend. That's about 20 in greater Downtown. And tourist season has apparently started...the retail district was hopping on Saturday (aided by a convention perhaps?) and the waterfront was equally hopping on Sunday.... Edit: oops, I mean two tower cranes went up in my neighborhood this weekend. A couple apartment projects. Last edited by mhays; March 26th, 2012 at 07:32 PM. |

@sounder This thread is about which cities have strong momentum, which both OKC and San Antonio have. I'm not sure what "kicking their butts" means. Please elaborate...unless you're gonna go city v. city in which case just ignore this post

I love how some think what is happening in New Orleans is post-Katrina "rebuilding!" Again, I defer for two more years then many will see. Understandable, New Orleans has been in the downers since the '70's and it is hard for this generation to grasp the idea of a progressive growing New Orleans. Trust, it's taken awhile for it to sink in with me, but, I've definitely seen enough in the last 2 years and know what it is coming and this is much more than "rebuilding." I knew something was up when officials from Dallas came down here about 18 months ago and wanted to see firsthand what is happening here with entrepreneurship and small business expansion (that's what initially raised my eyebrows). It's always been the other way around in my life.

I for one know that NOLA is growing but I do think the storm really helped wake people up. I mean come on look at how much the film industry grew after Katrina with the tax exemptions and now you have kids from up North like me who realize how silly it is to be freezing your ass off in a 1200 dollar a month closet in Brooklyn. When I can get a shotgun with a yard for the same amount. Of course the backroom deals were going down but I doubt you will start seeing those white concrete towers they proposed after the storm. Lets hope they work to fix the street cars and public transit first if they ever build them. |

Indianapolis has some momentum after the game New Orleans has no need for argument Phoenix is turning into the baby boomers retirement land Austin is a tech hub every nonchalant email news browser rates it high in turns for employment And OKC is the next Dallas apparently thats what people there are saying but im sure people from The Big D will have something different to say I used to live down in Providence I know Boston has had momentum but again and this needs to be clarified with Jersey City and Cambridge...THEY ARE BOTH SEPARATE CITIES. TO be quite honest I moved back to NY last summer and when I left Provide the only construction going on in the city of Boston was fixing the potholes and building dorms...Cambridge however is the Dubai of New England there I said it |

Meh. "Who's growing in the best way" is more important than who's growing most quickly. All of those cities have some infill but not on the scale of many others.

I hope Seattle gets their team back and takes back the history that is shared with OKC currently. Don't know what team is going to move up there though. Someone from Seattle (Bill Gates?) should have bought the Hornets (who have like no fans and were sold at a bargain price). Move that team to Seattle, and move the Thunder to the Southwest division. |

memphis has experienced continual and solid growth, but the real emphasis has turned to urbanism and regionalism, not just the growth of the county and city proper or the metro. the growth rate has steadily been at the 9.7% rate. the urban area is growing steadily. the new outer loop, the connection to the the new north interstate, the connection of all the intermodal rails and the 3-4 billion dollar investment thus far, the huge investment of growth in the port of memphis, the expansion and investment of 1.5 billion in the airport concept as an aerotropolis, and the continued 3 billion attraction and expansion of biodefense contracts, biologics, vaccines and orthopedic procedures, medical devices, and the continued growth of bioresearch, and the expansion and growth of diversified industrial and manufacturing operations is good for memphis.
memphis is a city unto itself. a bit isolated, but a great deal does on in medicine, research, manfacturing, logistics, i&t, music, tourism, etc. |
