No, but people do use abbreviations like MTL for Montreal or ATL for Atlanta. Not an uncommon phenomenon for longer, more cumbersome names.

The Tdot term used to make me laugh but now I'm so used to it I don't even notice it. Well, except for when people joke with other places like friends calling Halifax the Hdot or Amherst the Adot. That's always fun.

Yes, T.O. surely must stand for Totally Outrageous:

Isn't this too outrageous (even for T.O.)?

That was Lola.

I love the nasty old chick in the first video with the street interview. She reminds me so much of Divine in "Female Troubles".

That Lola is not to be confused with this Gina Lola Brigida (doing so would be Totally Outrageous):

Indeed, no! This Lola never misses a parade. She has a huge circular wheel that she uses to do cartwheels down the street. Can't miss her!

Does she do cartwheels down the streets of T.O. in the nude?

That would be Totally Outrageous!

I quickly checked back at some pics and she wore a kind of bustier that covered her mid section, with the upper and lower sections open. Let's just say that yes it is Totally Outrageous and no, I can't post the photos here!
TNT! (Totally Naked Toronto) group always marches nude in the Pride Parade.

Too bad you can't ... at any rate, I think we've answered the question: just what does T.O. stand for.

I don't know if it is possible to add value to this thread, but I will give it a shot.

TO just stands for Toronto (or turnover, for isaidso, as a sports fan).

T.O. does stand for Toronto, Ontario.

T-dot O-dot is a rap of T.O., which stands for Toronto, Ontario.

T-dot is a shortened version of T-dot O-dot, which is a rap of T.O., which stands for Toronto, Ontario.

Peace out.

This post remains unanswered...

Thank you. Now, if someone would like to take a gander as to when this whole phenomenon began, I'd love to hear it.

I tried googling "T.O." to find some sort of history, but google eliminates all punctuation when you type something in (even if you put it in quotes), so all I got were links to the meaning of the word "to."

If you then try "T.O. Toronto" (also in quotes) you just get more weird stuff like, "flights to Toronto." Pretty useless.

People complain that Toronto gets no respect... you could say that Toronto is the Rodney Dangerfield of Canada's cities.... but there is a reason for that... it's because Toronto is:
Totally Outrageous

From your own source:
"TO" or "T.O.", from Toronto, Ontario, or from Toronto"

So, in other words, no one knows which was the inspiration.

From my own post:

"TO just stands for Toronto (or turnover, for isaidso, as a sports fan).

TO = Toronto

T.O. = Toronto, Ontario

This should not be news to nobody.

Totally Outrageous is new, and might stick based on how things are going at City Hall.
