The SIPCOT is on the way to Sivagangai from Manamadurai i.e about 3 kilometres from Manamadurai town. They have started production a year back I suppose. It was a 2000 Crores INR investment. We tried to make it to their location when we went on an industrial tour last time. But the SIPCOT restricted our entry after a certain limit. I thought of getting them in Google Earth but they have only 2006 imagery there. I have requested for an update from them, let us wait till they update. But they are recruiting now and then. A particular line there in the first link below - "Knowing Tamil language is must.Madurai & Sivangangai Dist candidates will be preferred." ![]() and in the second link - "Candidates should be ready to relocate to Manamadurai (Near Madurai)" ![]() * 200 diploma guys for Trainee posting http://www.wisdomjobs.com/view_job.php?jobid=302480 * Head/VP/GM-HR (8 to 12 years experienced) http://www.wisdomjobs.com/view_job.php?jobid=340682 * Production head - LCD http://jobs.trovit.co.in/index.php/c...ferer_id.1/t.1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are other such industries like Sirius zip fasteners India ltd (with around 300 to 400 employees - One of the leading zip manufacturers in India they say) and Quantum drugs and Chemicals industry and other medium industries Over all, its occupancy and Nilakkottai SIPCOT occupancy was good. I will post some under construction industrial sheds in Nilakkottai SIPCOT in Madurai region II thread today since they could be included here after completion on my next tour to that location.

![]() Thanks MK. I am aware of the SIPCOT area. However, for some reasons I thought that this is coming up between Madurai and Manamadurai. Regarding the SIRIUS ZIPs, yes they are big. In fact, this is a group of companies in the same place. People from Madura Coats started these series of companies and they manufacture zips. You might see the name MCL in many of the ZIPs and these come from this place. I don't know if they still keep the name MCL as there is no Madura Coats Limited. They had this name even when the name for Madura Coats changes to Coats Viyella. |

Security sought for women employees in Kappalur industrial estate
The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) has appealed to the Madurai district Superintendent of Police Asra Garg to provide security to women employees working in the women's industrial estate in Kappalur.
In a letter, MADITSSIA President V. S. Manimaran said that the women's industrial estate was started with the help of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in her earlier tenure through the Small Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) and employed over 500 women. However, due to the presence of a TASMAC bar near the estate, the women workers were being harassed by unruly elements day and night. Further, anti-social elements were gathering in unused buildings inside the industrial estate and were creating trouble for the employers and workers. At a time of intense labour shortage, particularly in the skilled workers category, the available women workers are threatening to quit in face of this menace. Mr. Manimaran said, “While 20 companies are presentaly operating, 20 more are in the process of setting up shop. In two year's time, the industrial estate's entire capacity of 65 units would be filled employing more than 2,000 women. For this to materialise, security was a must.” The complaints given earlier resulted only in patrols for a short duration, after which the problem rose once again. Hence, the trade body urged Mr. Garg to provide for continuous patrolling of the estate premises and provide adequate security to women workers and called for relocating the TASMAC Bar. Mr. Manimaran noted that along with Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation, District Industries Centre and SIDCO, MADITSSIA was also among the Selection Committee that short-listed the applicants for the women's industrial estate. http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...cle3417344.ece Good to know that SIDCO for Women Industrial Park is going toward great occupancy

Looks like they are hiring a very small number of CIPET output also. When I was to Manamadurai last time, I was able to see Realestate guys putting up flex boards with words like very much nearby the Videocon Solar Power Farms, etc. and able to see Videocon container lorries roaming here and there in National Highways. Good to see a very large industry after quite a while in Madurai region.

State plans 100 industrial clusters with common facilities centre in 12th Plan
During the 12{+t}{+h}Plan Period, Tamil Nadu will set up 100 industrial clusters with common facilities centre (CFC) to enhance productivity, competitiveness and capacity building of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), said Rural Industries Minister M.C. Sampath on Thursday.
Delivering the inaugural address at a seminar on ‘Traditional industries of Tamil Nadu’, organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Mr. Sampath said that during the 11{+t}{+h}Plan Period, 50 projects were identified by the State government of which seven had been completed and eight were under various stages of implementation. The Centre had sanctioned a grant of Rs. 39.89 crore and the State, Rs. 5 crore. For the current year, 20 clusters would be taken up for implementation costing Rs. 136.07 crore. The Centre would provide a grant of Rs. 97.30 crore and Tamil Nadu’ share was Rs. 10.48 crore. The Minister said that as traditional industries provided employment opportunities to several lakh of people it was the duty of the State to protect the sector. Last year alone, the government provided subsidy of Rs. 66.50 crore to 3,824 MSMEs. Mega clusters According to the officials, out of the 100 industrial clusters, the State government had identified and validated 18. Proposals for six mega clusters along with CFCs had been sent to the Centre for approval. It would cost roughly between Rs. 9 crore to Rs. 14 crore per cluster. It was proposed to set up electronic cluster in Coimbatore, gold jewellery (Madurai), coir (Bhavani), gate and grill (Tirumullaivoyal), women’s ready-made garment (Thalavaipuram), lorry bodybuilding (Namakkal) and sago (Salem). Principal Secretary Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles and Khadi Department, G. Santhanam, said that the State government had kept the free dhoti, saris and uniform schemes going to help the unorganised sector that provided employment to weavers. It provided training to 1,000 village artisans last year. Mr. Santhanam said to increase the turnover of handicraft products Poompuhar would start selling its products through e-commerce. It had been decided to double the sales volume of Co-optex. http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper...cle3633791.ece

ITPO fairs help small units tap export markets: official
Trade fairs being organised by India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) helped micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) reach out to export markets such as Japan, Latin America, Africa, West Asia and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries, said its Chairperson and Managing Director Rita Menon here on Thursday.
These fairs, generally specialised ones that concentrate on a particular sector, provided a platform for suppliers and consumers to meet, she said while addressing the ‘Mupperum Vizha’ of Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA). The trade body’s 38th anniversary was celebrated. Besides, three awards — Visvesvaraya Award-2011 for best small scale industry in southern districts; Women Entrepreneur Award- 2011 given in association with Sakthi Masala; and the Service Industry Award 2011 given jointly with the TVS groups — were presented. An MoU was signed with ITPO. Ms. Menon said that the ITPO conducted fairs at several locations including New Delhi and Chennai, on various sectors such as hardware, food, printing, textiles and pharmaceuticals. The exhibition industry was growing in India at a pace even higher than in China. While conceding that the Indian economy was under pressure because of various developments in many areas, she said that the economy could still rebound. Speaking earlier, Neeraj Kumar Gupta, Executive Director of ITPO, said that while big companies had easy access to expos held domestically and aboard, small units needed assistance to take part in them and gain exposure. The ITPO conducted around a dozen expos domestically and more than 30 business fairs abroad. “Potential untapped” Collector Anshul Mishra said that less than 40 per cent of Madurai’s potential had been realised so far and expressed hope that recent developments would ensure the untapped potential got realised. V.S. Manimaran, MADITSSIA president; K.S. Serma Pandiyan, secretary; KR. Gnanasambandan, vice-president, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA); and N.R. Subramaniaraja, past chairman of All India Manufacturers’ Organisation (AIMO), spoke. http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...cle3687539.ece |
