WOW I am impressed with the Donietsk Airport, it looks amazing. Looks much nicer than the one in Lwów.

Are you crazy, the new one in Lviv is by far the best looking airport in Ukraine right now. I like it even more than the new Terminal D in Kyiv.

It's one of the ugliest in Ukrainie. Terminal D at Kiev Airport is far better. But Donetsk one still the best.

Euro 2012, Poland: Krakow, a Polish feast for players and Wags
Krakow, the England squad’s base, is a charming city with a wealth of attractions on its doorstep, says Adrian Bridge. According to legend, there is a stone in the courtyard of Krakow’s magical Wawel Castle that has mystical properties. The stone, believed to be one of seven chakras distributed throughout the world by the Hindu god Shiva, is said to give those that touch it special powers and an almost supernatural energy. It will no doubt be a place of pilgrimage for England’s footballers competing in Euro 2012 as they seek divine inspiration for the tough matches that lie ahead several hundreds of miles to the east in Ukraine. The England squad will be based in this fabled medieval city in the south of Poland, even though it is unlikely that they will end up playing any of their matches in the country. They will be in good company. For 500 years Krakow was the seat of the Polish royal family and the heart of the country’s cultural life. Many of the qualities that back then drew aristocrats and artists alike remain in the air today. With its vast market square (the largest in Europe and the size of four football pitches), its wealth of Renaissance and Italianate architecture, its extensive club, bar and restaurant scene and its neatly framed, walled medieval core, Krakow has a very special charm. In between training sessions, the England players (and visiting wives and girlfriends) will not be short of things to see and do. But should they tire of touring the monuments, castle and shops of Krakow, they will find plenty of diversions close by. The salt mine of Wieliczka could be one option. No, this isn’t a punishment devised by the FA for those who fail in the penalty shoot-outs: Wieliczka (pronounced vya-leetchka) is the home to a unique collection of statues and monuments that have been carved in salt deep underground during the course of the 700 years in which this vital commodity has been mined here. Here, too, the players may seek divine inspiration: in this case by paying their respects to the carved form of the late Pope John Paul II, one-time Archbishop of Krakow and himself a fan of the beautiful game (he played in goal for both school and university). Further afield they may venture south to the picturesque town of Zakopane, a gateway to the peaks of the Tatra Mountains and popular with skiers in winter and hikers in the summer. Krakow itself will not be hosting any of the Euro 2012 matches being played in Poland – that honour falls to the cities of Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan, each of which has its own allure (see below). But fans and travellers wanting to soak up the festive atmosphere that surrounds all such sporting occasions could do a lot worse than basing themselves in Krakow. Not without reason has this city on the Vistula emerged over the past two decades as one of the premier city-break destinations of central Europe. Krakow is a great spot to get a taste and feel of the texture of today’s Poland – and watching matches on the giant screen that will be set up in the old town market square should be a memorable experience. Given the city’s manageable scale (most of it can be navigated on foot), Krakow will also be the only place in which visitors may find themselves coming face to face with Messrs Rooney and co. Just possibly searching for that magical stone up at Wawel Castle. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/de...-and-Wags.html |

Today, the last 176 km segment needed of intercity railway service in Ukraine is put into operation (it needed to be electrified, the track had to be modified for Vmax =160, and new signalling has been installed)
The map of the prospective intercity network is below ( red is what has already been done by Euro). Until now, the freight and passanger trains were using the same lines in Ukraine which is a big drag on speed of the rail transportation. Starting May 28, the Lviv-Kyiv-Donetsk corridor will be exclusively for passenger traffic. The top speed is mostly 160 (there is one stretch of 180). Most important, the average speed of travel will increase to 110-115 km/h (may go up to 120 in Fall). Intercity+ train will travel from Kyiv to Lviv (575 km) in 4:55, Kyiv-Donetsk (750 km) - 6:30,

About Railways in Ukraine. I have big dificulties to order traintickets between Kharkiv and Kiev on Sun 10 Jun. Seems that many of the special 'Euro 2012 trains' are not yet in timetables and booking systems. Does anybody know when that will be???
