![]() Anyway here are also a few pics of how the "two way roundabout" will look, it´s beeing built at "Gävle Södra" - E4 exit. It will be Gävle´s biggest by size/diameter, but not by traffic volume. How "Gävle Södra" looks today, nor very good or safe - there´s to much traffic for left turns for example! It actually used to be a trumpet interchange, but was rebuilt like 20 years ago or so. ![]() And the new roundabout, with it's artificial "lake" you will be driving through and there will also be fake grouses in it... (Gävle´s "city bird") The red dot marks the sign in the photo posted earlier. ![]()

It probably commemorates 45 years of driving on the right

Repression, those climate-junkies love that. A quarter less traffic in a small country like Sweden is not really going to save the world from climate change, especially considering cars are much cleaner nowadays than they used to be.
This simply means steps must be taken in order for a large share of the Swedish population being unable to afford drive a car. In other words, Swedish people must be priced off the roads. Driving a car must be so expensive it becomes too great a burden for them to afford. I love the complete lack of realism among such people. They want to be dictators, dictating people how to travel and live.

Well, Slussen...
As it does not have all eights ramps, the typical cloverleaves have, passing the square is somewhat compilated. Driving from west to south needs passing all the three loop ramps, thus taking a 810-degree right turn. In addition, there are tight 90 degree left and right turns at the approach to avoid a bus terminal. |

Thought I post some more nice and cool old Swedish road pics from different places and decades.
First a really old pic of the road between Stockholm and Södertälje, National rute 1 (the E4 (and E20) today). I think this photo is from the early 1950´s. The church on the right is still today a famous landmark, when you are driving to Stockholm from the south. ![]() Some old, big roundabout I think was located some where along the road above. ![]() And you have talked about the "Slussen" cloverleaf, here´s an construction pic of it, early 1930´s I guess? ![]() And you also mentioned that we Sweds have been driving on the right for 45 years this year. Here´s a cool promotional photo of the then brand new Essingeleden. ![]() ![]() Sweet picture of the Skanstulls bridge with lefthand traffic and some strange but cool lightpoles This bridge is located right by the Stockholm Globe arena, and is the main entrance to Stockhom from some of the south suburbs and Nynäshamn and the Gotland ferries. This bridge is from 1946 but a second brigde (the Johanneshovs bridge) was built right beside it, partly over it actually in the early 80´s.![]() Under construction, early 1940´s. ![]() Brand new? ![]() Both of these bridges are nice to drive on, since they are so high (because big ships must be able to pass under them) and offers great views of the southern parts of Stockholm and the "Globe". The second bridge under construction, early 80´s. ![]() And completed. ![]() With "the Globe". ![]() ![]() Hope you guys like the pics! |

The old big roundabout looks like the roundabout at Brommaplan...

Gothenburg bridges.
A nice comparison of how the Göta älvbron (Göta river bridge) and surrounding area looked like in the 1960´s and today. This was the first "big" high capacity bridge over the river through Gothenburg, and replaced an old swing bridge from 1870... Even if it was aided by both a huge 6-lane cable-stayed bridge and a 6-lane tunnel in the 1960´s, this bridge is still today the one closest to down town Gothenburg and the one most used by public transportation and cyclists and pedestrians. Completed in 1939, but is in bad shape today and will be replaced soon! The city government are having a hard time though to agree what to replace it with: bridge or tunnel? and how it should look and so on... ![]()

When they extended rv 34, signs with former rv 36 had its destination changed to "Motala Vimmerby" instead of just "Motala". I guess two destinations didn't fit this sign, so they just covered it.

Well yes, makes sense. If it doesn´t fit on the sign, you don´t put it on at all. Alternatively one could place a bigger sign, but would be a bit far fetched...
