Hi guys, I am new here.

The new Sheraton is apparently going to be in the currently abandoned Premier Pacific structure in Kolpetty according to today's Sundaytimes.

http://www.sundaytimes.lk/120513/Bus...imes/bt02.html

The renders of the rather boxy building above seem to confirm that. Not exactly the best location for a 5 star though, looking at the surroundings. The building itself is not that inspiring either. But let's wait for the finished product.

The same article goes on to say that India's ITC has leased the land in between Shangri-la and the Taj, opposite Galleface, though their exact plans sound vague other than the fact that they are going to build a hotel. It is very difficult to find reliable info on the web about these projects actually. Wish at least these international firms had proper websites on their projects.

Thank goodness that monstrosity is finally getting finished. Also the surroundings aren't that bad now are they, with the re-done Galle Road and all.

Current state of the abandoned structure...

What the original Premier Pacific Topaz building was supposed to look like...

Of course, the general surroundings are much much better than they used to be. I was only commenting on the fact that immediate surroundings of the building is crowded with other low rise structures and is rather uninspiring for a five star hotel location. Also the broader side of the building actually does not face the ocean, leaving most of the rooms with not much of a view.

But of course it is a good thing that they are finally doing something, for it is the ugliest thing on the Galle road besides the unfinished Celestial building. With regards to that, there was an article on Sundaytimes (link given below) about there being an offer for it (sans much worthwhile detail as usual). Don't know how far along that deal is, if anything is going to happen that is.

Atleast the new elevation, though very simple and staright forward is much better than the previous monstrous looking and ugly premier pacific topaz building. I also heard that some extension might happen towards the back to Duplication road?
Is Atkins also doing the other ITC Sheraton on Galle Face.
Does anyone know what happend to the Sheraton proposed near the airport.

Too many proposals but nothing coming off ground. Look at the vacant pompous Shangr-la project. Nothing happening nor the so-called Hyatt. Red tape and beaureacratic pimping is preventing faster growth than anticipated. We have heard stories of international brands but nothing getting off ground except for the regular local players. All should publish and reveal their detailed projects to create an interest. Hope this wont fall on deaf ears and blind eyes.

in fact there are going to be two Sheratons, they have different brands under the Sheraton umbrella, like Starwood etc.

what ever happened to the proposed Embassy Medical Centre at Peliyagoda by SL born American investor Traiq of Silvermere hospitals. They had a beautiful hospital designed by Perkins+Will?

I don't know if there will or won't be two Sheraton's... but Starwood is the parent company, Sheraton is their leading brand - but Sheraton have sub-brands such as Four Points by Sheraton.

An article said that the ITC project will be a 'Luxury Collection' Hotel whilst this project will be Sheraton branded. Both brands are owned by Starwood. Also according to Starwood's website, a Four Points by Sheraton is going to be built at/near Colombo Airport.

The Luxury Collection is Starwoods high end hotel chain, more high end than Sheraton hence the decision to build a Luxury Collection hotel on the prime Galle Face land rather than a Sheraton......http://www.starwoodhotels.com/luxury...ollection.html

Any new updates with pictures on the ground. Not much publicity towards this project. A sleepy project from a Giant.
