Actually, without stating what the margin of error is, most of those differences (on the chart) might not be of any statistical significance.... if you knew how to comprehend the data, I wouldn't have to explain that to you.

You read and missed the point entirely.

And BTW, the table shows a clear trend where Albertan's rate other cities negatively, while the rest of Canada does not do the same for Alberta's cities across the board (except for Albertan's having a negative impression of Edmonton).

Of course, you can always fall back on the 1 time in 20 where this breaks down, but the spread is of statistical significance.

Not really, there was no "point"... just a chart that can be viewed from several perspectives, if I didn't see it from your "bash Alberta" perspective, I have nothing to apologize for.

There's no mention about the margin of error ....the margin of error could be quite wide for all you know... I studied statistical analysis in university so I know a bit more than you may think. And rather than mention the real stand out stat, which is how Quebec sees Canada negatively (13%) vs. Alberta at only 3 %, you cherry pick the other numbers that don't have nearly as much significance... Now how fair is that? Always have to take shots at Albertans, which by the figures (or the trend as you call it) just tend to be more critical - even of their own cities... just look what they think of Edmonton!

No, I simply asked a question... one that you were unable to answer.

As they say, figures don't lie, but liars can figure.

For the record, I'm not bashing Alberta - I have no issue there. The data is interesting, and supported an earlier argument from another member which you protested.

And 13% of Quebec having a negative view of Canada...that is a positive trend IMO.

I'm glad to hear that you are were trained in stats, and finance.

As they say, education is wasted on the youth. Certainly true for me!

What can be done with stats once you are in the workplace is quite impressive (gotta love Demming and Ishakawa).

So 87% have a neutral or positive view of their country. Isn't that about the same rate one finds in other countries?

Interesting stuff there, shiny! In the second last study, with Toronto being 18th there is an interesting quote from Richard Florida, two years ago:

“I hold up Toronto as an example of an older Frost Belt city that has effectively made the transition to a new economy based on finance, media, service, technology and design-intensive manufacturing,” Florida wrote at the Toronto Star in 2010".

Frost Belt? Never heard that before. Did Florida make that up and hope it would catch on?

It kind of makes sense, though, when describing the cities in either the north of Central/Eastern US, or the south of Central/Eastern Canada.

I'm always surprised how powerful Boston is; it is such a quiet, unassuming place when you are there.
