My greatest concern for the whole Vulkan project that it will just end up as a "dead" mini suburb with inactive public spaces.. Due to Oslo planners again are mixing residential too close to public places, they will most likely be very restricted during the evening due to noise pollution (like the sørenga case).
Fabrikken wich is a really neat nightclub will most likely have a cerfew. The build is generally very cheap and it leaks sound like it was a tent. I cant see this place being open at night at all.. I think this is a typical mistake. We build residential everywhere and not leaving spots for such urban things as nightlife.. I dont see it happening in Oslo.

I don't think it'll be dead, and it's unreasonable that Fabrikken should adapt to apartments in a neighboring street. Eitherway, the food market will ensure activity every day, and perhaps the store space in Nordre and Søndre kvartal will expand on Vulkan as a deli "hub".

the food market will hopefully ensure it is not totally dead yes. When it comes to fabrikken... Have you been outside during a gig?? I dont think its a question of addapting, but dealing with constant noise complaints. I will be surprised if they are allowed to hold concerts after 11pm.. hope im wrong on this one..

![]() Fabrikken is nice though. At least it really worked at the concert I attended, it's got a nice vibe with the big room and high ceiling. I'm guessing it will be used for a lot of different kinds of events. |

I'm not gay, but Jan Vardøen..what a man!!! He is like the Superman of Oslo's nightlife, and his importance for Oslo's culture the last 15 years can not be overestimated

Would it have killed them to build a few flower beds? I know it's winter, but it's very grey.

I guess portable flower beds would be a better solution given the climate. Permanent flower beds don't like snow, and the snow mowers don't like them either. And it's not like anything would grow in them anyway at this time of the year. But come May, and I think we'll see some colours in the area.
