Arena das Dunas starts installation of precast pillars.
According to the government of Rio Grande do Norte, this step was anticipated. So far, 23.03% of the works were completed. In Portuguese: http://globoesporte.globo.com/futebo...adios-em-obras Images Quote:

This pic shows exactly the perfect localization of Arena das Dunas in the middle of the city! The two main city avenues (Hermes da Fonseca and Prudente de Morais) can be seen on the right and left of Arena.
The other pic shows the Arena and the southern part of Natal (in right background, Ponta Negra beach and Ponta Negra big dune can be seen). The big resorts and hotel are located behind the big green area named Parque das Duna (Dune park). |

Via Costeira Road with the big resorts and Hotels. The Dune Park is located landward, to the left of the road. In right Background Potengi River and the downtown. Arena das Dunas is positioned on to the left to this pic (not shown). Last edited by lc; May 26th, 2012 at 03:41 PM. |

Natal is one of the cities that I want to watch the World Cup, it is good to know the great quality of this stadium. This is one of the best stadium/arena of the Cup. Thanks for the pics!

How was it decided that the goal stands will be left uncovered? Cost-cutting measure?

Exactly, to reduce costs. According to the OAS (Builder and owner of concession) the old design of the roof was not feasible. I dont know, but I have heard that the stadium roof costs is about 1/3 of stadium's construction cost.

Today, the metropolitan region of Natal consists of 4 cities: Natal, Parnamirim, São Gonçalo e Macaiba which together have an estimated population of 1,35 million inhabitants. The old stadium, Machadão built in 1972, had a capacity for 52,000 spectators. At the time, Natal had 350,000 inhabitants. In no way the stadium is great for city size

The owners of the Arena das Dunas has said that the arena will be multipurpose, so football is just one more possible use for it. I think, the games between ABC x America (the two best teams in the city) will very likely to happen in the Arena das Dunas. |

Yep. So where does that put us? Nowhere as Natal is the subject here. Grow up.
