Here is an aerial view of the old Gator Bowl.
image hosted on flickr ![]() I could be wrong, but I believe they built the new stadium with such a large capacity b/c the annual Florida/Georgia game routinely sold out the old Gator Bowl. They didn't want to loose that game, so they built the new stadium much larger that than they needed for the Jags. The average capacity for an NFL stadium is about 68,000, so tarping off enough seats to get down into that range is nothing Jacksonville should be ashamed of. |

I may be a little biased, as this is the home of my Jaguars and I've been here to see a game many times - but it is one of my favorites. Not a bad seat in the house & a great place to take in some football on a Sunday afternoon.

Yea its not a bad stadium and Jags dont need a new stadium at the moment. Fans need to show up though if they want to keep the Jags.

The "fans don't show up" rhetoric is tired & not true. The Jags by no means sell out every game, but haven't had a game blacked out in 2 years, which in this economy and in the 2nd smallest market in the league says something about our fan base. Only having been to the playoffs twice in the past 12 years doesn't help either...

Saw the game tonight. The field, I thought, looked a tad narrow. However, it didn't affect the play all that much.

Field was wider than I thought it'd be. It played well too, the grass was nice. Crowd was excellent, 44,000 I think.
I think Jacksonville has earned a qualifier, certainly another friendly. |

Not that it matters 100+ years later, but Scotland were the first preeminent power in the international game. And 44,000 for a friendly in Jacksonville against Scotland, considering they have no recognizable players to the casual US fan, just goes to show the good support the MNT has. |

I like this stadium, I have been there for the Gator Bowl, Jaguars games and the ACC championship game. It is modern, but doesn't have that corporate 1% kind of feel. Also really good view from the top deck.

Why is there a "/" in the title of this thread with both its past name and current name?
It is only currently known as "Everbank Field"...can a mod change this? |

By the looks of it, they could do with some more tarps to cover up the empty the seats. There was Goodell, smiling away having his picture taken with the Jags fans, whilst the empty seats and team that plays in this stadium just makes the NFL look like a joke.

Oh please...if you were actually watching, during the first/second quarters the place was full. It wasn't until it was certain that we were cruising along to our 5th straight home blowout loss that the place started emptying - when you saw the shots of the commissioner. We even haven't had a blackout all year unlike the Chargers, Bucs, and Bengals. People are so quick to jump on my Jags before actually doing any kind of research.

I like the configuration of the bowl a lot, but I just don't understand why they didn't have more of a cantilevered upper deck bringing it somewhat closer to the field. As it is now, the upper deck is a mile away from the field.
