Yes , arrival terminals for international passengers is congested in BOM and the airport looks very messy may be because too many constructions are going on...But it has a great departure terminal

International Arrival Terminals at BOM looks like local bus stations here. Outdated and high time those are renovated. It creates a very bad impression for those arriving to the biggest city in the country.

Cochin International Airport fortifies operations with SAP

Cochin International Airport fortifies operations with SAP
Quote:
Kochi: The pioneer greenfield airport in India, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) at Nedumbassery near Kochi, has opted for SAP flagship SAP ERP ECC 6.0 solution to fuel information flow across its unified network. SAP’s partner TCS will implement the project and it is expected to go live in 18 months. The deployment will also include other solutions such as SAP SRM, Real Estate Management and BU-BI Analytics.

The fourth largest airport in India in terms of its international passengers volume, CIAL has over 500 employees and an annual turnover of over Rs.2.5 billion. The airport needed a solution suite that would integrate the functions of different sections and departments on a single platform and include internationally accepted best practices and features. The SAP solution will be integrated with CIAL’s existing cargo and duty-free shop system and will boast of the ability to send live dashboard reports to senior management.

In a release, Mathew Thomas, VP - Strategic Industries, SAP India said, “Airports today want the right competitive advantage; real-time business processing drives stronger outcomes and helps increase bottom lines. SAP has been aiding airports in India and across the world to get up-to-speed, become transparent and achieve greater profitability by enabling sound management. Our association with CIAL is another milestone in aiding airports in India to gain that distinct edge in greater value creation”.

As market leader in enterprise application software, SAP (NYSE: SAP) helps companies of all sizes and industries run better. From back office to boardroom, warehouse to storefront, desktop to mobile device - SAP empowers people and organizations to work together more efficiently and use business insight more effectively to stay ahead of the competition.

CIAL, which commenced operations in 1999, is the first-of-its-kind airport developed under the PPP model, where airport users (mainly NRI investors) joined hands with the Government of Kerala and the airport service providers to build an International Airport.

GREAT!!!!! So we are going CIASL-AEROSTAR for operation CIAL MRO..... Going going....

Aerostar is one of the leading EADS partner and surely will change the MRO Scenairo of India. Being a third party operator, other than traditional Airline Operators, surely will bring lot of players to Kochi for servicing and potential for passenger services too.

Happy to hear, CIAL and Aerostar will be upgrading the level of current MRO for higher checks and also initiating the second phase of MRO which allows Wide Body servicing as well as additional hangars for Narrow body flights. Perhaps it will be first and Only one Wide Body facility in Kerala and second in South India after Hyderabad!!!!!

Well, that is how you do things. If you keep on believing that "If you build, they will come", you will have to just keep waiting.

Kochi airport becomes new control centre for regional air traffic

Again central theory
Quote:
Efficient control systems are expected to reduce flying time for aircraft arriving at the airport here.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is trying out the Lower Area Control Centre Kochi — a new facility to man airspace below 24,500 feet — as part of restructuring, monitoring and control of Indian airspace.

The AAI is updating its air traffic control facilities at 36 airports. Kochi, being the busiest airport in South India after Chennai and Bangalore, has emerged as a new area control centre in the new exercise. The plan aims to provide more efficient control systems to reduce flying time for aircraft landing and taking off from Nedumbassery international airport as well as those using the naval air space. Air traffic controllers are engaged in providing smooth, safe and orderly flow of air traffic and contribute to the profitability of the aviation industry.

The introduction of a new air traffic control unit at Nedumbassery will enable controllers to handle traffic in this area more efficiently as the major flow of aircraft is towards Kochi and then to Kozhikode and Coimbatore. Flights to and from all three airports will be handled by the Kochi centre.

Systems at the new centre — comprising state-of-the-art AIRCON2100 air traffic control automation system, is already in place in Kochi and will cater to airspace up to about a 120 km north of Kozhikode, north of Mysore, about 80 km south of Kochi and about 175 km west into the Arabian Sea.

These airspaces were being controlled by centres in Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalore.

The new system in Kochi is integrated with radar surveillance inputs from Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalore and Bangalore, which helps provide a seamless, real-time picture of aircraft over a large area.

This ensures smooth flow of flights, reduces airborne time and results in substantial fuel savings and reduced emissions.

The AAI is also planning to install a local radar, work on which is progressing on the south side of the airport.

The new radar sensor will be integrated with AIRCON2100 system, which will facilitate tracking of an aircraft from takeoff to landing. This new radar will help reduce flying distance and landing interval between flights at Kochi. Meanwhile, airspace in the area above 24,500 and upto 46,000 feet will be monitored by the Chennai flight information centre.
