The flexities on the other hand are barely above their minimum nominal voltage requirement.
I was actually referring to the voltage reached during regenerative braking not the nominal line volts. The appearance of a voltage of over 900 on the heritage cars would possibly be more than their equipment could safely handle routinely. As the current drawn by these cars is relatively low compared to the Flexities it is quite likely that the system would never be receptive enough to keep the voltage within the capabilities of the older cars particularly the museum cars such as Bolton 66 and Blackpool and Fleetwood 40.

First traffic accident involving the new trams yesterday. Minor bump between tram and car up near Rossall Sq.

So who jumped the lights car or tram?

The car almost certainly according to the article, but there will be camera on the tram to prove whether the driver and driver instructor are telling the truth.

Apparently the report was wrong. The tram wasn't on training duty it was in service and the training tram was behind it. The Gazette must be as bad as the MEN!

Whenever there's a rail vehicle/road vehicle collision, you're never going to lose money by betting on "rail is almost always safe, while a sizeable minority of road drivers are hopeless morons". Even raising the question is a waste of breath...

Hi guys,
new poster but long time lurker on several threads... This and Metrolink

According to Trams today on facebook something is happening in Blackpool soon, could this be the Talbot Road extension they've been talking about, or the Airport extension?

"There should be even more surprises in store this week, with a very special announcement from Blackpool coming shortly"

(Would have copied a link to it but facebook won't let me. It was posted on 28/05/12 )

Also yes the Gazette is on a par with MEN, they can't seem to work out the difference between Northern Rail, Network Rail or National Rail.

Thankfully, however, already this week things have started to look up with a sense of anticipation building for several events. We have been able to report on the repaint of Boat 604 into its plain 1970s/ 80s livery, reactivating a colour scheme not seen for over fifteen years and, for me personally, bringing back a livery that I remember fondly as a child. Boats are definitely in the news, with the launch of 607 at Crich probably being one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. The Beside the Seaside event at Crich, on June 3rd and 4th, is expected to be a very popular one, with Blackpool trams galore and the chance to see some old favourites in service and on display. Definitely not one to be missed. Meanwhile, the repaint of Twin Set 672+682 continues in Blackpool and in Manchester the opening of the Oldham line draws ever closer. There should be even more surprises in store this week, with a very special announcement from Blackpool coming shortly and further exciting news from the world of preservation. The lull is definitely over!

A world awaits anxiously!

Do we know of any funding applications? How many new trams are there- if more than are needed for the current line, that's a potential sign.

Hope Blackpool gets the tram extension it deserves!

They havent submitted any funding bids so if it is a big extension announcement it will be a 'new council policy, seeking funding' one.

I can confirm the bid for funding the extension won't be until 2015, I'm leading the big push to make sure we put the best bid in (we need to follow Manchester's way of not accepting second best and not to take no for an answer whilst uniting the town behind the bid).

There are 16 trams and four of those are for the extended routes to Blackpool North and more longer term the airport.

I'm relatively confident Blackpool will get the funding for an extension.

The government shows preference to extending existing networks rather than building new ones, and with this only a very short extension and to the main transport hub, it stands a strong case.

Zim, Follow Bristol's lead in its bid for a crap Bus Rabid Transit scheme. That will show you how not to do it. It has united a lot of the city against it.

Let's hope for a good bid in 2015, then Zim! I want to arrive by rail at Blackpool North, and transfer to tram for Fleetwood!

Er, anything happened? Can't see anything in Trams Today, Evening Gazette, or Twitter, other than a Flexity going back to Germany (Bombardier paying) for repairs to a door.

Hi BoyamIjealous I believe it was the use of a centenary tram as part of the heritage fleet. I may be wrong that is the only news I picked up.

I've been watching too, not seen anything that sounds like an expansion. Bit of a let down there.

Like Zim said it may have just been the heritage fleet using a centenary. The way it was phrased in trams today's post led me to believe it was unrelated to heritage.

Big announcement is a 1937 tram to be repainted in Diamond Jubilee livery by prisoners from HMP Kirkham for the Illuminations. Its a Diamond Jubilee not a golden one and the queen in the window is just tacky.....

That is a godawful design. What an gawdy tram!

I'm all for ceremonial themes, but at least try and make it look good.

I agree and as mentioned by Watcher it's the Diamond Jubilee not the Golden one.

It's great prisoners have been involved in the work but the design should have been better.

Oh on another topic, I'm not sure if it's in the public domain yet but if it isn't it is now, the Rocket Tram will be back this year sadly as a fixed tableaux but it's great that it will be back. It will be based at the Gynn Square roundabout during the illuminations.
