In the vast majority of cases, a car kills someone by accident. The exact opposite is true in the case of guns. The thing that makes one news worthy and the other not is the intent of the people involved. Nothing more news worthy than one person intentionally ending the life of another. Very counter to the whole civilization thing.

The problem isn't guns. Guns don't just go off. The problem is too many uncaring or unthinking people with guns. We need harsher no tolerance penalties for these kind of people. While cities grapple with gun violence, the right of everyone to own a handgun will forever be defended by people in rural areas in the name of "tradition..." It's ridiculous. And these shootings show the people on this forum who are always going on and on about getting rid of gang-types that a lot of shootings are for very different reasons.

I'm not strongly anti-gun, but the pro-gun side just seems to have terrible arguments. Telling the victim's family "don't worry, we're taking his gun away now" just doesn't sound very reassuring.

The issue of guns in our society is a genie that has left the bottle. I just feel safer in societies where people don't have easy access to guns. I truly don't believe we have more people who fly off the handle in the USA vs. Europe, we just have access to use the weaponry at hand.

Thoughts and prayers to the families and loved ones who have lost their lives. This is another dark day in Seattle.

Exactly. In Europe an innocent bystander won't get hit by a knife/axe/baseball bat during a confrontation, not to mention a case of "drive-by". It's clearly an access to guns problem and it makes me sick every time half of the nation is in denial repeating the mantra "people kill people, not guns".

I don't own a gun (got that from my father). This is definitely a conversation that's at an impasse at the "legal" level. The conversation has to go to a different level if we're going to solve things.

If anyone deserved to die it was the shooter. However, the families of the innocent may never know what actually happened. That is the sad part of all this. What a crazy murder spree, all followed live on local tv, no less.

In the literal sense, there's CCTV footage of the crime happening. It would give a good indication of what happened. Who he might have been targeting, etc. In the more "why did he do it??" sense, I imagine more details will come to light thru interviews. I think this one will be pretty open and shut.

Yeah, I saw that too. The First Hill connection, though was made hours ago.
KIRO TV reporting that the suspect had been kicked out of the Cafe by members of the musicians who played there, and who he shot. Good gawd.

Unfortunately, it is near impossible to have someone you love committed. I know first hand, we lost a schizophrenic brother we thought was dangerous to society, and there wasn't ANYTHING we could do. How did this menace to society end? He convinced himself that he could stop trains.
