Just curious as I plan my shopping
What hours can a store like Safeway sell liquor after the new law takes effect? Is it 6am to 2am 7 days week, 24/7 or something completely different? Since I very rarely go into a liquor store (or buy cocktails for that matter) I'll be one of those customers who won't notice the price increase(?).

As the board has now decided, no sales from 2-6am.

Thanks - just wasn't sure if the bar rules applied to retail outlets. I'll be drinking a lot more now.

I haven't been to a lot of different grocery stores lately. The Broadway Market QFC has a separate room selling hard alcohol, with its own cashier. How are most other grocery stores selling their liquor? Mixed in with beer and wine?

They are- for now. Until the shoplifting gets out of hand. They obviously don't know what city they're dealing with.

And heck yeah- looking forward to drinking less beer and more quality spirits. I bet one of the reasons Seattles a big beer town is that hard alcohol is so hard to get.

Stores in Britain like Tesco have tamper proof covers for their liquor. Kindof a cross between a plastic guard that keeps you from taking the cap off and the thing that triggers the store alarm. Might start seeing something similar here? I can't imagine that ISN'T a problem in Cali as well? What do they do there?

Also, we love our craft local stuff too. I imagine we'll see more craft distileries like Mischief in Fremont popping up.

In California they generally have video cameras everywhere. And sometimes have a seperate section for liquor, often in view of cash registers.

It looks like retailers are generally going to be selling liquor during the twenty-hour-a-day period they're allowed to sell it, then, and if the store closes before two, that's when their liquor sales end for the day, too?

And finally, more than one crappy state-run outlet will be selling liquor downtown--all four Bartell's, Walgreen's, Rite-Aid, Kress IGA, Whole Foods, the future Target at the base of the Newmark Tower, Ralph's, Uwajimaya, Viet Wah, Cost Plus World Market (of all places), and the future 7-Eleven at the base of the Cosmopolitan Tower. Time to break out the mother's ruin, girls!

The interactive map in the following link shows retailers which have applied for liquor licenses:

http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/n...liquor-in.html

And here's another one:

http://www.thenewstribune.com/2012/0...lications.html

The future 7-Eleven in the Cosmopolitan Tower isn't shown on the map, but it's included in the Washington State Liquor Control Board's list of licensees.

When Whole Foods Westlake opened at 7:00 I was there to see the liquor. But nope - none there yet. Really, I don't drink that much!

Cool rendering of new CityTarget:

I think it would be coolest looking Target store I have seen so far.

It'll be so much easier to get breakfast and lunch!

We have (or had?) a state store two blocks from my office. It came in handy every now and then when heading from work to a party. And every year or two I get the idea to buy margarita stuff or something.

The red signs are great in real life from when I drove by a couple days ago. So refreshing to see.

Because my life is about avoiding small annoyances, I usually walk down First through Belltown (Second requires a slalom through misplaced trees etc.) then back to Second so I don't have to pass the freeway exit and don't have to walk a half-block uphill. So I walk past Target every day. It's a bit garish up close but I like it from a distance. And garish is ok sometimes.

I think I like how the bright red contrasts with the dark gray that covers much of the Newmark building. I'm looking forward to overhearing tourist conversations "look honey, a Target downtown."

Target is interviewing for 400 positions at this location! Yeah us. On a similar note, I read that Seattle has the 3 best economy in the US (behind DC and Des Moines, IA). Yeah us, again!
