They also have a large enough fleet of those smaller buses so the average cost goes down. With 10 buses, the average cost savings is not that much from having smaller buses. Better to stick to the larger ones. Also, the new buses should be conforming to standards - stepless buses, or low-floor rather than mid-floor and high floor buses. At least one good thing - the new buses will probably be quieter than the older ones. Cheers, m

Kesian them, basic so low...
![]() February 01, 2012 20:36 PM CM Says Bus Drivers Will Not Get Less Pay Than Previously MELAKA, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- All bus drivers under Panorama Melaka Cultural and Tourism (PMCT) will not get a salary of less than what they were getting when working for bus companies in the private sector. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ali Rustam said all the drivers would receive their salaries based on points taking into consideration certain criteria. "Drivers will get a RM510 basic salary a month, but if commissions and overtimes are taken into account, they can get RM1,000 or more," he told reporters after visiting Melaka Sentral here, Wednesday. The State Government through PMCT took over the management of stage buses in Melaka from today after paying a compensation of RM7.7 million to 10 stage bus companies in the state on Thursday. However, about 50 bus drivers staged a picket today citing unhappiness about the salary offered and compensations due to them which they did not receive. Their representative Abdul Hamid Sahad, 44, said they were unhappy about the salary as they were earlier drawing basic pay of RM850. Commenting on the matter, Mohd Ali said any problem or dissatisfaction should be referred to the bus companies concerned as PMCT had paid all compensations. --BERNAMA http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v6/ne....php?id=643437

14 July 2012 | last updated at 02:01AM http://www.nst.com.my/nation/general...aug-1-1.107271 ![]() Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Radzi (second from right) being briefed on the functions of the two platforms at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex at the Sungai Melaka estuary yesterday. With him are Immigration director-general Datuk Alias Ahmad (left) and Public Works Department deputy director-general (management sector) Datuk Annies Md Ariff. Pic by Hatim Ab Manan MALACCA: THE new RM73 million Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex at the Sungai Melaka estuary will be fully operational by Aug 1. The new complex is expected to serve up to 5,000 people a day, compared with the present 300. Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Radzi said the new complex would not only provide modern facilities and a comfortable environment for tourists, but it was also the first in the country which was disabled- friendly. "There are two special platforms to cater to the disabled that cost RM200,000 to construct. "The complex is also fully air-conditioned and will house duty-free shops, rest areas and booths for public transport and hospitals. "With these facilities, we hope the new complex will become the main entry point for tourists and also medical tourists to the state and country," he said after receiving replica keys to the complex at a hand-over ceremony from the Public Works Department yesterday. "The new complex is expected to cater to 200,000 visitors a year, mainly medical tourists from Indonesia. "They normally seek treatment at Mahkota Medical Centre, Putra Specialist Hospital and Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh. "According to statistics of the Immigration Department, some 143,107 people came to Malacca by ferries last year, and of this, 124,336 were Indonesians. "In the first six months of this year, 72,565 people were recorded using the ferry services." Abdul Rahim said several government departments would also be stationed at the new complex, such as the Immigration Department, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Royal Malaysian Police, Marine Department, Malaysia Quarantine and Inspection Services Department and the internal security publishing and al-Quran text division of the Home Affairs Ministry.

Sinar Harian quotes Panorama Melaka Chairman as saying the new buses to be rolled out from November will be 17 metres long and has a capacity of 60 (seated?) passengers - all pointing to specifications of an articulated bus. Will Melaka be the first in Malaysia to operate articulated buses?
