'MAS gives investors steady returns'
Published: 2012/06/01 http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...cle/index_html Financial industry observers say no financial institution would give funding to Malaysian Airline System Bhd (Malaysia Airlines) if they were not confident of the airline's future. Malaysia Airlines' RM9 billion funding plan the airline recently announced is seen as a vote of confidence in the airline's future. According to Head of Investment Strategy and Chief Economist, Multi Asset Group, AMP Capital, the recent move by the airline seems like a good way to go. "On the one hand MAS gets long-term funding for the purchase of new aircraft that doesn't boost its debt levels,” he told Bernama. “And the investors get access to an investment that provides a reasonable return with security backed by the assets at a time when the market is flush with cash looking for an investment destination," he added. AMP Capital is a leading global investment house with over $124 billion as at March 2012 in funds under management. It shares a proud 160-year heritage with its parent AMP, Australia 's largest retail and corporate pension provider, and has offices in Australia, Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States. AMP Capital is a leading global real estate manager and one of the longest standing infrastructure managers. The combination of its scale, breadth and capability provides access to superior investment opportunities. The first of Malaysia Airlines’ new fleet of superjumbo Airbus A380s landed at 3.55pm in Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday. The second aircraft is expected to arrive by the end of the year and two others by early next year. These A380s will be the newest in the region and are believed to be the catalyst for the airline to return to profitability, providing them an opportunity to reclaim its glory. The A380's commercial debut is set for July 1 as a thrice-weekly Kuala Lumpur-London service, before going daily in August. The demand for seats on the A380 is said to be high. Malaysia Airlines will also introduce the A380 to its Sydney-Kuala Lumpur route from Sept 25, running as the daily MH122/123 service and replacing the current Boeing 747-400. -- Bernama

MAS: No shake up in management
Wednesday May 30, 2012 http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story...&if_height=202 KUALA LUMPUR: In response to recent news reports about possible changes at the management and board of directors’ level at Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier confirmed that at this point of time, there has been no changes of officials in these levels. Earlier, sources said that Dr Mohamadon Abdullah, a former senior executive of MAS would be making a comeback to the national airline as a board member. “In the event of updates on the current situation, an appropriate announcement will be released to all stakeholders,” said MAS. Meanwhile, Airbus said in a press release that MAS has taken delivery of the first of the airline’s A380 orders. MAS ordered six A380s.

MAS is set to announce new business plan
By B.K. SIDHU Saturday June 2, 2012 http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story...&if_height=202 CHANGES are afoot at Malaysia Airlines (MAS) with Dr Hugh Dunleavy being appointed the airline's commercial director effective yesterday after acting commercial director Shane Nollan left at the end of May when his contract was up. The position is important for MAS as it requires the planning of routes to chart the airline's path back to profitability. Dunleavy was the candidate the eight unions and associations of MAS had recommended to take over as commercial director. He comes with 30 years of experience, having worked with WestJet Airlines, Lufthansa Systems, Star Alliance, Air Canada and at PROS (passenger revenue optimisation systems) Revenue Management. The unions/associations did not want Nollan's contract extended and they seem to have got their wish granted. Another position they want filled quickly is head of sales. That position has been vacant for nearly a year now but in a couple of weeks, Duncan Bureau of WestJet Airlines may be appointed to that role. Those in the know claim he has accepted the offer to lead sales at MAS and has attended an in-house engagement not too long ago. The changes at the key positions of MAS have led to speculation there will be more changes at the top in the coming weeks, particularly after MAS' AGM scheduled for June 21. StarBiz has reported that Dr Mohamadon Abdullah (a former senior executive of MAS) will join the MAS board after the AGM. A news report this week speculates that a senior MAS executive had tendered his resignation. MAS issued a denial, saying that “the national carrier confirms that at this point of time, there has been no changes of officials in the management structure and board of directors. In the event of updates to the current situation, an appropriate announcement will be released to all stakeholders following any decision made.” The latest shuffling at the top of MAS hints of the airline's desire to maximise talent from within. It is learnt that contracts of some consultants hired in the past nine months will not be renewed, while some consultants are already not doing any more work for MAS. Yesterday a report quoting senior company executives said that “MAS was reviewing contracts with its major vendors and will drop the services of consultancy company PlaneConsult in coming months as part of an overall plan to reduce costs by as much as RM500mil. “This is to ensure that MAS has a fair position and real value for our spending. The other aspect of the contracts review is to assess if the jobs can be insourced. Apart from being able to reduce costs, when our staff are mobilised for these work processes, they are actually the team that knows best the level of service demanded by our guests,” the report says. PlaneConsult was in the spotlight often because it is controlled and managed by Connor McCarthy, who is also a director of AirAsia. Nollan has also often been linked with PlaneConsult. MAS recently managed to re-negotiate a deal with its catering supplier to end the need for the minimum baseline revenue provision but it is only until the end of the year. There are a lot of things happening at the airline and effort is under way to engage with the staff and listen to the unions/associations so that it is a concerted effort to rebuild the airline. “That is a good sign because harmonisation is the way to get everyone working together and the onus is on everyone to help rebuild the airline,” says an expert. But what MAS needs now is a business plan and this time around even the government wants to know how MAS will chart its profit flight path. MAS CEO Ahmad Jauhari when contacted says the airlines new business plan will be announced in the week beginning June 11. “The structure needs to be re-aligned with the new business plan as the current structure is based on the December business plan. While at it, they must ensure there is clarity and the structural, people's and operational issues are addressed,” says a source. MAS may also be returning to the labs concept that was made popular by MAS former managing director Datuk Seri Idris Jala. Jala had run a series of labs in MAS to define and resolve some of the complex problems found in the key areas at the airline. “Whatever the initiative, the biggest is really about selling tickets and getting the money in. That should be the key focus for MAS now,” says an observer.

I don't understand you guys, what's wrong with just staying as they are? Why do you people judge them by the way they look or how they choose to wear? It is called local culture, if our local girls choose to wear like that and not necessarily conforming with your 'international' standards, then I don't see anything wrong in it. Stop labelling people and widening the urban-rural gap, it's mean.

Dont get me wrong,What did i just say?? i NEVER mentioned anything about how or what they wear, MAS kebaya is by far the best in the whole sky. ![]() What im trying to say here is, looks is everything for big corporate, and in terms of advertising, MAS standards or any other airlines, of-course that they will positioned the most highest and good looking professional steward n stewardess on the fleet, first impression is vital. And the ground crew that i mentioned was, they don't look or have that kind of 'international' class looks, they look fine as who they are. But not for stewards n stewardess. Simple example, stewards n stewardess are like a runway model. Model has to be beautiful right? Do u ever see a model that is short, fat, plump, muka pecah rumah that kinda thing? I hope u get what im trying to say. Sorry if anyone feel offended by my harsh comments, as i am just being honest n expressive of my critiques.

But those photos are from their personal collection. I doubt those are for corporate or marketing purposes.
People don't have to reflect the corporate image for company they work for all the time, especially not during their free time. Right? And to say one has to possess a model-like beauty to be a flight attendant is degrading to the profession. Where are the other more important qualities such as good manner, excellent communicator, attentive, etc? |
