Yes, the road that was being repaired had huge deep cracks, which was unsafe for driving. Good thing they are fixing it now.

Standard yata satin ngayon ang 12-in concrete pavements. Those rebars are needed only at the cold joints, where fresh concrete will have to be "connected" to concrete poured the previous day.

The NDRRMC said the incident occurred at 1 a.m. at Km 96+100 in Quilo village in Ibaan, Batangas, involving a jeep (VAE-893) and a 14-wheeler truck (RGK-671).

"Based on the investigation, the truck was traveling southbound when it overtook a vehicle ahead, which caused (a) head-to-head collision with the jeep which was traveling northbound," it said.

It identified the fatality as Erlinda Curria, of Nauhan in Oriental Mindoro.

The injured were identified as:

In other news, there was heavy traffic in STAR tollway last night at the toll booth area. The line extended for about 1km They should probably add another toll booth just like the format at slex or skyway

BIG NEWS!

Star Tollway upgrade set
By Manila Standard Today | Posted on May. 16, 2013 at 12:00am | 256 views

Star Infrastructure Development Corp., tollway concessionaire of Star Tollway in Batangas, starts improvement in July of the 42-km. Batangas expressway.

The project includes adding to two lanes extending from Batangas City to Lipa City, asphalt overlay work of the four lanes from Sto. Tomas up to Lipa City, installation of CCTV cameras, fiber optic cables and additional street lights.

The two additional lanes will serve as the northbound lanes coming from the Batangas City Toll plaza. Star Tollway operates on a two-lane design serving northbound and southbound vehicles. These lanes will be dedicated for southbound traffic after the new lanes are built and become operational. Asphalt overlay work from Sto. Tomas to Lipa will cover more than 40 kilometers of toll road on the southbound and northbound direction.

“These major road improvements must be undertaken soon to sustain the rapid growth of trade and tourism in the Province of Batangas, and the rest of the Southern Tagalog Region, ” SIDC president Melvin Nazareno said.

Alongside the road construction activities would be the installation of fiber optic cables which is part of Star Tollway’s system and communication upgrading program, which includes an enhanced toll collection system and the installation of CCTV cameras on the entire stretch of the expressway.

Long-awaited upgrade sa wakas...

Sana magawan ng paraan na maintegrate na STAR with STAR since iisa na lang naman concession holder.

Paano kaya yung gagawin nila sa Ibaan exit, isa pang overpass? Malalaman...

I hope those yellow bridges would be painted in a standard white similar to NLEX and SLEX cause that paint scheme looks cheap and horrible and the signages would be replaced similar to NLEX/SLEX or SCTEX.

Imagine traveling the soon new STAR Tollway like traversing SCTEX, Good Scenery plus asphalted roads :bd

It's only gonna be asphalted until Lipa city. Once you go past that, things get really bumpy again

If that is the case that would not be good. But let's wait, maybe just maybe they would also asphalt the Lipa City-Batangas City segment so that they could really "justify" the toll hike which would be similar to NLEX, SLEX, and SCTEX .
