the LRT & MRT in manila is pretty much the same thing to me, both are elevated & similar purpose... its just the name.. LRT is supposed to be "light rail" but the so called "LRT" in manila is actually a mass rapid system not "light rail"

CONSTRUCTION work on the MyRapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line is scheduled to start in two weeks once approval from the relevant local authorities have been obtained.

IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, which is part of the IJM group, has been awarded the elevated Package V5 to construct a viaduct guideway and other associated work from Maluri Portal to Plaza Phoenix station in Cheras.

IJM managing director and chief executive office Datuk Teh Kean Ming said it was conducting preparatory work.

“We are also making sure that we comply with the safety, health and environment requirements by the Department of Environment as well as rules and regulations of Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Land Public Transport Commission,” said Teh.

“We are confident that the project will be delivered on time and IJM will work closely with the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) — MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd to ensure that matters involving the public such as environmental and traffic management as well as health and safety issues are given priority.

Ready to serve: Information officers are prepared to answer queries from the public.

IN ANTICIPATION of the MyRapid Transit (MRT) project, MRT Corporation has geared up with packed information for the public at all times.

Five MRT Info Centres have been established in Kota Damansara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, KL Sentral, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn and Kajang.

Since they began operation in November 2011, some 10,000 people have visited the centres which channel vital and up-to-date information to the public on the next phase of the transportation system.

A kiosk has been set up in Bukit Bintang while a mobile info van, which will be rolled out in a month’s time, will be reaching to local communities along the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line.

PETALING JAYA (June 2, 2012): Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) today unveiled its first MRT Information Truck (MIT) aimed at providing the public with up-to-date information on the MRT project.

MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said MIT was in line with the company's commitment to proactively reach out and educate the public, especially future users of the train service.

"The MIT, designed to resemble the interior of a train carriage, is equipped with the 'Hawkeye', which is a state-of-the-art touch screen which enables visitors to interact with the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT alignment map in a 360-degree view," he said.

He told reporters this after launching the MIT at a shopping mall here. It also has an integrated televison panel and three laptops to enable visitors to access information and learn more about the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT line.

Over the next six months, it will be at various residential areas, shopping malls, universities and colleges along the Sungai Buloh-Kajang alignment.

"The public are encouraged to provide feedback to MRT staff at the MIT which operates from 9am to 6pm, from Tuesday to Sunday," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ERL train extension from KLIA to KLIA2 will be ready by October this year, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.

"The train journey between KLIA and KLIA2 will take about three minutes. The extension will likely see the volume of ERL passengers doubling," he added.

The ERL services, which include the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit, carry about four to five million passengers every year.

Kong said the project to extend the line to the new low-cost carrier terminal totalled up to RM100mil.

"The project is currently running smoothly and about 25% complete. It is scheduled be ready by Oct 31 this year while the KLIA2's construction is expected to be completed in April 2013," he told reporters after visiting the construction site of the proposed rail extension here Thursday.

He added that the extension was necessary in line with the development of the new terminal as it will enable passengers from KL Sentral to reach the KLIA and KLIA2.

"I hope that when KLIA2 is in full swing, we will be able to make ERL services available 24 hours a day to cater to flight arrivals in the wee hours of the morning," he said.

Currently, ERL services run for 21 hours a day, taking a break between 1am and 4am.

Kong also commended the ERL services for achieving "on-time" performance of 99.83%.

The project to extend the ERL line started in July last year and covers 2.14km.

In 2010, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced plans to build the KLIA2, the world's first mega terminal for low-cost carriers.

He said it was expected to boost the nation's tourism industry by attracting more airlines and visitors.

But, AFAIK for the upcoming KNIA airport train will use the same rolling stock as KRL in Jakarta... And the airport train will not build any dedicated lines though...
