Took pics of the old Jurong East Interchange. Looks like they won't be building anything yet.

Now that Serangoon Bus Interchange has moved, what will happen to the old structure?

There's a carpark above it; perhaps converted to a full-scale carpark?

Hmm, took pics of the area of what used to be Jurong East Bus Interchange. I guess it would take some time since there is no tender for the design of the interchange .

It is regarding the old Serangoon bus interchange. They are converting it into a community space.

Old Serangoon bus interchange to make way for community space
By Hetty Musfirah | Posted: 21 July 2012 1911 hrs

SINGAPORE: The old Serangoon bus interchange will undergo a S$3.9 million facelift.

It'll house Singapore's largest Integrated Day Facility (IDF) which aims to provide better support for the elderly to age-in-place.

The IDF will be ready by the second half of 2013.

The old Serangoon bus interchange used to serve buses and its passengers and has been around since 1988.

The old interchange has been left vacant since September 2011, after a new interchange was set up at the nearby shopping centre, Nex.

Since then it's understood that residents have been curious to find out what will happen to the place.

After receiving feedback for more medical facilities, MP for the area, Seah Kian Peng asked for the site to be used for healthcare and eldercare purposes.

The old interchange will be redeveloped into a community space for the young and old.

There'll be a childcare, a gym and primary health care facilities.

Unlike day care centres, IDFs provide additional services for the frail elderly such as general nursing care, rehabilitation and care for those with dementia.

Care givers will also be supported with information, coordination and referral services. It's a move welcomed by residents as about four in 10 at the area are above 50 years old.

Mr Seah said: "In my regular block visits over the years, many residents have expressed various wishes but high among some of the wishes were number one - I think were for more amenities, whether it is eldercare or day care centres. These services are required and will become even more important and more desired by residents going forward."

The old interchange was chosen given its accessibility and the less than ideal conditions at HDB void decks.

Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Halimah Yacob, said: "It's an excellent idea because this interchange is located right smack in the community. Our first consideration in building IDFs is always that it has to be in the community. So whether it is in the void decks or in a facility like this, it will have to be because it is the support that we provide to the frail elderly that is critical."

Up to 40 IDFs will be set up by 2016 to provide care for about 6,000 elderly persons.

Eight IDFs will be ready by end this year.

Not sure if the roof top car-park connected to NEX will be maintained or not.

Looks like Bukit Panjang Temporary Terminal more or less ready after the final phase of parking lots for the buses.

looks to me like a parking area. think its a no boarding/alighting terminal and services will commence from their usual first stops near Jelebu Road.

It may be possible that buses may either turn directly into Senja and down BP ring road before turning right into Bt Panjang Road. It makes sense since the Bt Panjang Road bus stop is the main transfer point for many of the services passing through Bukit Panjang.

The other possibility is for the buses to just turn directly into Woodlands Road, and then turn at the Bt Panjang Road junction or continue down. So the first stop will be the bus stop opposite Ten mile junction LRT station. This will likely reduce the noise and disturbance on the resudents along Senja and BP ring road.

I think both options will be in play. the idea is to not alter any part of the existing routes of services using the terminal. any additional stops will be a bonus.

for instance 176, 180 and 975 will use Senja Way > BP Ring Road and make a right turn onto Bukit Panjang Road in order to serve its usual stop there. but 920 and 922 will run down Woodlands Road and turn left into Petir Road in order to serve the usual stop outside Bukit Panjang Plaza.

184, 700 and 970 will use BP Ring Road and turn left down Bukit Panjang Road, though they have the option of using Woodlands Road and serve an additional stop along Bukit Panjang Road if they like. chances are they wont want to confuse residents into thinking this is a route enhancement and stick with the former though. this logic applies to 75 as well.

Saw this comment in TODAY. It was in response to an enquiry regarding the transport issues once Jurong Gateway is in full swing. It also states that the interchange would only be build in conjunction with the developments surrounding it for better integration.

the interchange has potential to be of a significant size. hope they dont waste it given the growth of Tuas South and the possibility of having buses complement the new rail network running from Joo Koon.

Found this in OneMap. I guess it is the shape of the new Joo Koon Integrated Development.
