Although now 11 months old, I think this newspaper article deserves a showing on this thread . .

Former Cleveland Club building set for £1m revamp
May 26 2010, by Sandy McKenzie, Evening Gazette

NEW life is set to be breathed into a historic Middlesbrough building. Green Lane Capital is planning to spend £1m on the former Cleveland Club building in Cleveland Street. The company plans to create premium office space in the heart of the oldest part of Middlesbrough.

It is the second historic property in the town to be developed by the company this year - work started last month on the Kirby College residential project.

Now renamed Gibson House, after the architect who designed the building, and who worked alongside Sir Charles Barry on the Houses of Parliament, the £1m development will provide 6,000sq ft of office space and 20 parking spaces in a prime central location.

"Our plans for Gibson House mean it will become the perfect location for a company who wants an impressive office building in a central location.”

Chris said: “Gibson House is a Grade II listed building and we want to ensure we renovate sympathetically so we are consulting extensively with experts. We aim to begin work later this year, and envisage a company being able to move in by the end of 2011.”

Yes. It has been completed, in fact, quite a while ago.

Check out this link, there's a video on it that you'll like:

(I've had some problems getting to video to work, but I'm on a tablet so that might be why).

I did some research on this building, in case anyone's interested. It has a very famous connection: it was designed by John Gibson who assisted Sir Charles Barry in the preparation of the drawings of the Houses of Parliament in that London. Something to be proud of.

She looks absolutely gorgeous. Well done, developers.

I have changed the Thread Title Suffix to Completed.

This project seems to have finished almost without us knowing that it had started (almost).

It is a shame we did not get any progress reports / photos (etc) on this one!

The Development Summary 'Project 23', noted also.

Is there anyone who has a photo of the completed project?

As I say, the video on that link is of the finished product. The reason I suspect there were no progress photos or a finished one is because it's out of the way. I'll try to get down next week to get a few photos.

I managed to get into the town this morning just as the monsoon hit. It was a deluge that never seemed to stop, so the photos aren't the best.

I can report they've done a wonderful job. It looks stunning. It's really beautiful. The detailing is magnificent.

I would like to go on record as saying I got drenched getting these photos and subsequently discovered that my coat isn't very waterproof in that it isn't. I think I have pneumonia. Sigh.

Great photos, worth getting wet for!

(Well, worth YOU getting wet for . . . )

Seriously, good stuff, I'll use one in the DS in due course.

Former Cleveland Club reopens as
Gibson House at Boho Four

by Mike Hughes, Evening Gazette, June 8th 2012

Chris Preston (left) and Andy Preston, with Kevin Mann and Rachel Burns from audacious, one of the first in Boho Four

ONE of Middlesbrough’s grandest old buildings has found new life as a 21st Century business hub following a £1 million refurbishment. The former Cleveland Club, which was once the National Provincial Bank, has reopened as Gibson House at Boho Four, offering office space in the town’s booming Boho zone. Built in 1872, the Grade II-listed building has been renovated by Middlesbrough-based Green Lane Capital, run by brothers Andy and Chris Preston.

Just three months after the completion of the two-year restoration, 50% of Boho Four’s 17 offices of varying sizes have already been let – and Andy is confident the remainder will be quickly snapped up. “It’s a landmark building, full of character,” he said. “When it came on the market, I was sure, with a sympathetic restoration, there’d be lots of interest because people like to work in interesting buildings – and that’s exactly how it has proved.”

After renaming the building Gibson House after architect John Gibson, who designed it and worked alongside Sir Charles Barry on the Houses of Parliament, Andy and Chris decided to tie it in with the Boho zone, the town’s thriving creative and digital area. It means occupants of the old building enjoy all of the reception, networking, meeting room and café facilities at the nearby Boho One.
