[Don Pacho]

El Gran Bazar (Kapalıçarşı en turco) en Estambul es uno de los bazares más grandes del mundo con más de 58 calles y 4.000 tiendas, y tiene entre 250.000 y 400.000 visitantes diariamente. Es bastante conocido por su joyería, orfebrería, tiendas de especias y tiendas de alfombras. Muchas de las tiendas del bazar están agrupadas por su tipo de mercancía, con áreas para los abrigos de piel y la joyería de oro por ejemplo. El bazar contiene dos bedestanes, o estructuras de mampostería con domo para el almacenamiento y salvaguardamiento de mercancía; el primero de ellos fue construido en 1464 por orden de Mehmed II. En 1864 fue reconstruido en su mayoría luego de un terremoto.


Principales secciones del Gran Bazar

• Bedestán interior: Fue la primera estructura en construirse en todo el Kapalıçarşi, y de hecho es el Bedestán Antiguo que forma la columna del bazar. Sus entradas son: Liberías, Tiendas de Sombreros, Tiendas de Joyería y Tiendas de Disfraces.
• Bedestán de la sandalia: Tiene el mayor número de domos en Kapalıçarşi. Hoy en día se puede acceder a él a través de dos puertas; una es la Entrada Principal, y la otra es a tráves del dsitrito de Nuruosmaniye .

The Grand Bazaar (Turkish: Kapalıçarşı, meaning Covered Bazaar) in Istanbul is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with more than 58 covered streets and over 1,200 shops which attract between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. Opened in 1461, it is well known for its jewelry, pottery, spice, and carpet shops. Many of the stalls in the bazaar are grouped by the type of goods, with special areas for leather coats, gold jewelry and the like. The bazaar contains two bedestens (domed masonry structures built for storage and safe keeping), the first of which was constructed between 1455 and 1461 by the order of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The bazaar was vastly enlarged in the 16th century, during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and in 1894 underwent a major restoration following an earthquake.

Grand Bazaar

Going to the Grand Bazaar is an event. It has more than 4,000 shops! There are plenty of soveneir shops in Istanbul, but none offer the excitement of this covered market. Because this is a tourist haven, shop keepers raise the asking price of the merchandise. This means you will have to bargain hard for a fair price. You might pay anywhere from 25-percent and 75-percent of the asking price. Whatever you find in one store, it can certainly be found in a dozen nearby shops. If you are looking for a water pipe, visit a couple shops with a good selection of them before actually negotiating. You can also say, "Hey, why would I pay you $10 when I get the same thing at the other store for $5" As soon as you turn your back to leave the store, the salesman will say "ok, ok, you have a deal."

The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays.

Hola
Soy estudiante de arquitectura y en el proyecto que estamos manejando tomamos de refrente al gran bazar de estambul, la verdad es que no lo habia visto pero eh quedado impresionada al ver tanta belleza, es Impresionante!! definitivamente en algun momento de mi vida, tengo que visitar este asombroso lugar
