HYDERABAD: The 23rd Annual Conference of Association of Southern Urologists, SZ-USICON 2012, kickstarted with a CME programme at Hyderabad on Friday. The conference of southern urology that has 600 delegates participating from the four southern states as well as international experts is focusing on peadiatric urology this year.

Organising committee members said that 150 scientific papers will be presented during the conference that will be inaugurated by Professor I V Rao, vice chancellor, NTR University of Health Sciences on July 14 at Hotel Marriott 12 noon. The paper presentations would be on kidney cancer, prostate cancer and infections.

On July 13, a workshop on 'Laser therapy in prostate - How to utilize the technology for management of prostate' was held. Dr P V L N Murthy, head, urology at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences and also the organizing secretary said that the conference will have international speakers from UK, Austria and Copenhagen talking on urological problems among children. "Urologists from all the four southern states are gathering in Hyderabad for the annual conference. This conference will provide a platform for not just doctors but students as well," said Dr Murthy.

Doctors said that peadiatircs is one area where they need to focus because the concepts have changed over the last two decades. "What was taught 20 years ago is no more relevant. Most of the urology problems among children are congenital. Earlier these were treated through surgery but now we have other options," said Dr Murthy.

The conference is being organized jointly by NIMS and Hyderabad Urology Society. The conference aims at throwing light on modern concepts of treatment and the best practices in treating urological diseases. The concluding day of the three-day conference is July 15. Last year, the annual conference was held at Thrissur, Kerala.

Expert throws light on future of marketing

Quote:

Michael Leander Nielsen, world-renowned speaker and consultant was in Hyderabad for an exclusive guest lecture on social cool or social fool and six other factors that affect the future of marketing. For an audience of MBA and PhD students, Michael highlighted that the corporates do not understand the basics of social media marketing with the fallacy lying in objectives’ designing of the campaign. He also added that we cannot be media specialists, and integrating all channels is a necessity.

He shared the nuances of social media marketing by saying that it is a picture economy and the picture that drives marketing should generally stir an emotion and should contain the Unique Selling Point (USP). He added that there is a misconception that getting likes on Facebook is the most desired objective. However, what is important is that the marketers get shares, comments and the tone of voice.

Michael also gave a different perspective to online digital strategy and highlighted that discovering the purpose or the problem leads to the correct strategy.

Director of IBS, Hyderabad, Prof. G Narasimha said Michael Leander’s lecture was packed with powerful insights into social media marketing and was the best way to maximize the digital exposure in today’s world. Maverick- the Official Marketing Club of IBS Hyderabad helps the institute by organising these types of events and continuously works for the all-round development of students and the institute as a whole.”

Leander covered a range of topics related to direct, digital, interactive, social marketing and CRM.

HYDERABAD, AUG. 9:
Machine tool and engineering industry is poised for growth with small and medium enterprises playing a big role, according to players in the industry.

The Rs 10,000-crore industry is growing at about 15 per cent a year. But it had a tough 2010-2011 due to the general slowdown. The current year too has been impacted due to slowdown in the automotive sector in the country.

The domestic machine tool industry is able to meet only about 40 per cent of the total consumption. But it holds immense potential as manufacturing sector modernises and takes to new generation products of global standards.

The Fourth Edition of HITEX International Machine Tool Expo 2012 will be held here during August 23-26 along with the second edition of Process Engineering and Conference, will take stock of the problems and prospects.

Addressing a press conference here today, K. Nagendra Prasad, Chief Operating Officer of HITEX, said that the event where BHEL, NMDC, Hyundai among others will participate, is expected to serve as an ideal platform for business-to-business interactions. The event is likely to host over 200 exhibitors and is expected to have over 12,000 visitors.

Andhra Pradesh is considered the second largest base for machine tools in the country. The industry in the State and around Hyderabad witnessed significant growth due to the presence of State-owned Praga Tools and HMT. Lately, Karnataka has made big strides allocating about 300 acres for machine tool equipment makers, M. Lokeshwara Rao, President of Lokesh Machines Ltd, said.

Devendra Surana, President of Fapcci, said the expo will serve as a forum to process technologists, entrepreneurs, engineers, procurement mangers.
