Look out for the Mississauga Steelheads.
The Ontario Hockey League club, formerly the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, revealed its new logo for the 2012/13 season this afternoon.
The logo depicts a Steelhead trout, with Mississauga Steelheads written below. As well, a small Maple Leaf is included in the name for patriotic purposes.
The Steelheads name was voted the most popular moniker in a name-the-team contest last week. Steelhead trout inhabit the Credit River.
The fish is said to be powerful and resilient, images Mississauga-based Landmark Sport Group, the club's new owner, is trying to incorporate with its latest acquisition.
Scott Rogers, the team's vice-president and director of business operations, believes it's a logo that fans of all ages can relate to.
"I think it's a strong logo," Rogers said. "It's not too cartoony, but it is relatable. A child can look at it and see a fish and understand what it is. To the parents, a Steelhead is a certain type of fish, so it's cross-generational."
With the unveiling of the logo, the team will begin developing promotional and merchandise items that will be sold out of the team's gift shop at the Hershey Centre next season.
The Steelheads expect to have their website (mississaugasteelheads.com) and Facebook page up and running shortly. As well, they can be followed on Twitter @OHLSteelheads.

lol, seriously? I think it's weak when people name a team after a noun. Lacks creativity. I wish North America would take a more European approach to naming sports teams.

logo and name look great! LOVE IT!... Wonder if we'll be throwing trout onto the ice now as a playoff tradition.... Lets nickname the Hershey Centre the "Fish Market"

Enough retail space for a Sobey's perhaps? It would be similar to the one in Cityplace. This district will need a major grocery store within immediate walking distance.

Sobey's would be great there. Definitely a need for a major grocery store here, the new Rabba is convenient for a few things but we need more. How does the 30k sq feet of retail in phase 3 compare to the already completed podium?

I was walking by Limelight today and counted what I think is 9 retail locations along Living Arts Dr. Would be nice to see a few restaurants or cafes along this strip.

Good question. There will be retail in south podium but I don't know the square footage. I hope they put in a pub or something to that effect. i.e. Real Sports bar.

I'm impressed with how many people are using the new square. I walk through the area often and it always has good activity. Today the place was bustling, lots of young families out and about and the water pad is a big hit with the kids. It was quite busy on Thursday for movie night too. I'm actually noticing a lot more pedestrian traffic in the general area as well lately.
