Metrolink is somewhat reminiscent of Edmonton's LRT.

I like Metrolink. It's one of the more underrated light rail systems in North America.

how does one transfer from the Gateway station to Metrolink? Is there a spooky walk through an abandoned parking lot?

The Civic Center Metrolink basically stops just right outside the complex, not that far of a walk.

There have been several proposed extensions of the MetroLink system.

Daniel Boone Corridor (Clayton to Westport) - The proposed line would run north from the Clayton station along the old Rock Island Railroad right-of-way paralleling I-170, then turn west to follow existing TRRA trackage to Page where the line would then follow Page Avenue to Westport. Six stations may be added along this corridor.

MetroNorth Corridor (Clayton to Florissant) - The project would extend the current Blue Line from Clayton to North County into Florissant. Some of the line would also follow the old Rock Island Railroad right-of-way paralleling I-170.

MetroSouth Corridor (Shrewsbury to Butler Hill) - The project would extend the Blue Line from its existing terminus in Shrewsbury further into South County beyond I-270/I-255 to Butler Hill Road.

MetroWest Corridor (Westport to Chesterfield) - The project would extend the Daniel Boone Line would connect Westport Plaza to Chesterfield in West County.

NorthWest Corridor (Northside to Daniel Boone and North County) - The future cuts off from the Northside Line in North St. Louis, passing over the Red Line to the future Daniel Boone and North County Line extensions.

NorthSide Corridor (Downtown to Goodfellow & I-70 to St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley) - The extension starts north from Downtown St. Louis further northwest to the Florissant Valley Community College.

SouthSide Corridor (Downtown to Bayless to Butler Hill) - The extension starts from Downtown to the south of St. Louis County to Bayless I-55.

St. Clair Extension Phase 3 (Shiloh-Scott to MidAmerica Airport) - This involved an extension of the Red Line to the MidAmerica Airport.

Madison County Corridors (East St. Louis to Alton or Edwardsville) - This involves an extension of the MetroLink system from the 5th and Missouri station in East St. Louis north to Madison, Illinois and potentially to either Alton or Edwardsville.

St. Charles Corridor (Lambert Airport to St. Charles) - This involved an extension from Lambert Airport to St. Charles.

SouthWest Corridor (South St. Louis to Fenton - This line involved an extension to South St. Louis to Fenton.

Not to my knowlege, most if not all of the existing alignment is on it's own right of way although there are alot of at grade rail crossings.

Fantastic pictures!

BTW, these fine photos confirm that the light rail has helped re-invigorate St. Louis into a far more vibrant city than many might've thought.

It is stated that the Daniel Boone Corridor, going from Clayton to near Westport Plaza, may be the next extension of the St. Louis MetroLink system to be funded and built. The line is 8 to 10 miles (13 to 16 kilometers) long and may have around six stations.
