This sounds great! Now only need a major project for the phosphate plants. Kebir, does Iraq have a specific plant where it specifically creates fertilizer by importing both sulphur and phosphate from both regions?

khor al zubair and Baiji...

KBR has announced that it has been awarded a contract by First Global Company to revamp the North Fertilizer Plant in Baiji [Beiji, Bayji], Iraq.
Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide a license for its proprietary Ammonia Process and related engineering services to increase the plant capacity to 120 percent of the original design. The original plant, which started up in 1989 was designed to produce 1000 MTPD Ammonia.
“KBR is proud to have the opportunity to work with First Global Company to revamp the North Fertilizer Plant,” said John Derbyshire, President, KBR Technology. “Helping our licensors debottleneck their plants and achieve greater production capacities and process efficiencies is one of our core competencies and will be an area of significant growth worldwide.”

New Fertilizer Plant for Basra

26 July 2012- John Lee.

The Ministry of Industry and Minerals has announced an agreement with a Japanese Company to build a new plant for nitrogenous fertilizers in Basra province.

A statement from the Ministry said:

“The MoI represented by the Petrochemical Industries and Fertilizers Commission concluded a non-binding goodwill letter and Confidentiality Agreement with the Japanese company Mitsui to build a new fertilizers factory in the Khor al-Zubair district of Basra.

“Production capacity will exceed one million tons per year of urea fertilizers and 200,000 tons of additional ammonia for export.”

“This agreement is a step towards increasing participation of Japanese companies in investment opportunities in Iraq.“

Yeh I know, and I will keep mentioning it forever, just hope to god that someone responsible in the government might see it, so somehow it can penetrate into their thick brains.

There will be a revolt in Al-Anbar before the current useless politicians even try to steal any ressources from Al-Anbar to use it for themselves instead for the Iraqi people. At least I hope that will be the case if imrprvoment do not happen.

Iraqi need their own gulag camps for corrupt politicians.

Imagine for a second a competent government without corruption? We would have been a global power if the right choices were made. Look at UAE and their influence and situation. And they are a very small fish in comparison with Iraq be it in terms of natural resources or potential.

Yea just like what is going on in Basra.

We just need a political system that prevents corruption but the question is how?

UAE nearly has 100 billion of oil reserves and they produce around 3 million bbl/day. That's not just a little fish. Their population is also nothing compared to Iraq's.

"Small fish" is probably a wrong name but you know what I mean. Iraq, as a country, especially when it comes to natural resources is much richer. Let's not even mention the potential.

All the wars have unfortunately destroyed much. But we all know that.

Don't know what can be done. I fear there need to be a change of mentality before any progress can be made. I have a slight hope for this new generation (that born after December 2011).

But forget anything about harsher laws towards corruption/combat of corruption as long as all of Iraq is ruled by corrupt politicians.

Iraq has world’s largest sulfur reserves

By Khaula al-Aukaili, Azzaman, September 17, 2012

Iraq has the world’s largest sulfur reserves estimated at 600 million tons, a statement by the Mishraq State Sulfur Mine said.

Iraqi sulfur riches were extensively developed in the decades before the U.N. imposed sanctions on the country in the aftermath of the 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

Exports of sulfur to international markets were booming and Iraq was self-sufficient in sulfur-related products.

But shortly after the 2003-U.S. invasion the site of Mishraq, about 45 kilometers south of the northern city of Mosul, was vandalized and the processed sulfur estimated at 21,000 tons set on fire, creating what was then believed to be the largest human-made release of sulfur dioxide.

The government has only recently turned its attention to revive the project.

Mishraq, the mining firm, is working to revive and develop the deposits.

The company has a deal with the U.S. Devco for a turn-key installation of a complete sulfur purification facility at a cost of $78.6 million.

The statement said the U.S. firm has dug five sulfur wells so far and the facility, once completed, will meet domestic needs for sulfur products with surplus for export to neighboring countries.
