PANTOMIME is coming to the ECHO arena.
The waterfront venue will welcome Sleeping Beauty this Christmas, with Corrie and The Bill actor Andrew Lancel – winner of British Soap Awards 2012 Villain of the Year – heading the cast. The production, from December 14 to January 6, will be staged in a specially-built, 3,000-seat heated big top on the King’s Dock site as part of a Christmas Family Festival extravaganza. The Voice live tour has been cancelled country-wide owing to a lack of ticket sales. Unsurprising given how low the ratings dropped to.

Strange, because the show was much less crass than BGT, the singers were better and weren't needy, screechy balls of irritation and the whole thing was much more dignified.
Scum sells I guess.

Blood, Beatles and the Beautiful Game: World's Leading Haemotologists Head to Liverpool
The world’s leading haematologists arrive in Liverpool this week to discuss the latest weapons in the fight against major killers like heart attacks, strokes and deep vein thrombosis. A total of 1,500 scientists from 75 different countries will join the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) conference at the city’s BT Convention Centre. The three day event, from June 27th, is hosted by The Roald Dahl Haemostasis & Thrombosis Centre at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and is regarded amongst professionals as a landmark opportunity to develop worldwide understanding of the conditions. http://www.liverpoolvision.co.uk/New...liverpool.aspx |

This is the kind of event that will bring millions of pounds of benefit to the city and help reinforce positive images. Delegates stay in local hotels, eat in local restaurants, drink in local bars and experience local cultural offerings. Last week there was a major conference of gastric specialists and pharmaceutical companies at the Convention Centre. I heard specialists from Manchester, who hardly knew our city, extolling its virtues.
Whilst I am pleased that the arena exists, the Convention Centre and the (imminent) Exhibition Hall are/will provide significantly greater benefit to the area. |

ACC Liverpool Ambassador Helps Bring International Medical Conference To City
ACC Liverpool is set to welcome thousands of international delegates to a medical conference after one of the city's ambassadors campaigned for it to come to the city. The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) will hold its four day International Meeting from October 17 to 22 2013, bringing around 2,500 attendees from more than 60 countries. The event will bring together thousands of leading experts in women’s cancers to learn about new developments in the prevention, treatment and study of gynaecological cancer. Dr John Green, senior lecturer at the University of Liverpool and consultant medical oncologist at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, worked with the Liverpool Bidding Partnership to bring the society’s biennial conference to the venue. He is one of a group of ambassadors and affiliates who work with ACC Liverpool and the city region to attract events to the city. He said: “ESGO is the world’s leading gynaecologic oncology society and, as Liverpool progresses to become a world leader in cancer care, it seemed a logical development to bring the International Meeting to Liverpool. “The world-class facilities at ACC Liverpool really strengthened our bid to host the event in Liverpool and the destination assets are a perfect fit for this international event. We have all worked hard to try and secure the meeting and look forward to welcoming thousands of medical experts to the city next year.” The event will be the 18th in its history and will take place in both BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, both part of ACC Liverpool. Kerrin MacPhie, director of sales at ACC Liverpool, said: “This event is a fantastic example of the importance of our ambassadors and affiliates in helping us to target and win events. “We are working with this important group of individuals as they are key drivers to developing the city’s economy.” Previous locations for the congress include Berlin, Istanbul and Milan. The 2013 programme will include updates on the latest in clinical and laboratory research on gynaecological cancer prevention, treatment and care. Many patients with these cancers now survive many years, and patient seminars and advocacy group interactions will be important components of this meeting. Professor Nicoletta Colombo, ESGO president, said: “The International Meeting is an opportunity for our members to listen to keynote lectures, take part in sessions and browse symposia led by international experts. “Liverpool’s strengths as a conference destination and in the medical sector were important factors in our decision to choose the city, and ACC Liverpool, for our next International Meeting.” Carol O’Reilly, manager of Liverpool Convention Bureau, added: “ESGO’s confirmation that it will hold its next meeting in Liverpool is the culmination of a long period of developing relationships between the city and the conference organisers with Dr Green providing vital support. “This will be a good opportunity to show off what we have to offer to European delegates who may never have visited Liverpool before.” http://www.accliverpool.com/mediacentre/news/esgo.asp |

Thanks for sharing - more fantastic news from the team at ACC. The strength in medical conferences is really impressive, and as medical and biological research is an important area of growth for the city region, there's a nice synergy there. I love reading stories like this.

I note it seems to be in use for 28 days between now and the end of the year. How does this compare to other conference centres? |

Looked at GMEX and it seems to be in use for around 25 days but with less 'quality' perhaps, so well done all at the ACC especially in the current climate!

The X Factor boot camp to move to Liverpool.
THE X FACTOR boot camp is set to move to Liverpool this summer. The elimination stage of the talent show will take place at the ECHO arena and BT convention centre. ITV were forced to move it from London because of the congestion when the Olympic Games descend on the capital. About 200 acts will head to Liverpool after getting a yes by the show’s judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger. Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell took part as a guest judge at the Liverpool auditions before Nicole won the role. Bosses took the decision to head to the home of The Beatles in a bid to avoid the mad rush in the capital. One of the reasons was said to be based on the fact so many of this year's remaining contestants are from around the Merseyside area. The city was also picked to host the start of the first round of auditions for this series, which took place in May. A number of the show's artists have previously been found in Liverpool including last year's runner-up Marcus Collins. Other popular Scouse X Factor stars include 2010 runner-up Rebecca Ferguson, Kirkby singer Craig Colton and Ray Quinn, who came second to Leona Lewis. ![]() Great news. In addition to all the contestants and their friends and family that will be coming, reading a few X Factor forums shows that people from as far afield as Newcastle and Northern Ireland are already planning to come to Liverpool to watch the Boot Camp stage. A great opportunity to show off our city, both on TV, and in person.
