Airline chooses Iloilo airport for South Koreans

AIR Philippines, a sister company of Philippines Airlines (PAL), has chosen the Iloilo Airport of international standards as an important base for direct flights between South Korea and the Philippines.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said negotiations are underway for Air Philippines to bring in passengers from Incheon, South Korea to land in Iloilo as a main gateway for the famous Boracay Island and other tourist destinations in Panay Island.

The airline is set to buy several units of big planes to cater to the needs of foreign tourists going to Boracay and the rest of Panay Island.

City tourism officer Benito Jimena said the city is also taking advantage of overcrowded Kalibo Airport and offers the Iloilo airport in Cabatuan, Iloilo as a most likely entry of passengers from South Korea and other cities in Asia.

Earlier, Mabilog said the Iloilo Airport is ready and able to serve the needs of international passengers coming to the city and province and to Boracay.

Foreigners will not to worry over accessibility to their destination in Boracay as air conditioned vans and good highways are already in place. However, aside from Boracay, there other places in Iloilo worth of tourist destination, Mabilog said.

Similarly, Jimena said the Talisay-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental temporarily closed its direct flights from South Korea after the golf season ended in Bacolod. Airlines in the Negros airport could not sustained the international flights, Jimena said.

Mabilog and Jimena are set to negotiate also with Zest Air to reconsider the Iloilo airport for its foreign passengers.
