Surprising how little ole Guild sticks its hand up, even from the City.

looks better now than earlier thanks to the completion of the three big bubble imprints.

still not convinced and really can't understand why the east wall is concrete given potential park views. West views with sun and freeway more understandble.

at risk of raising the ire of some on this board and not wanting to offend anyone or sound ungrateful but given the awesome photo/updating going on at the moment I would prefer if we those posting pictures were a bit more judicious in posting updates...

is there any value in the second set of pictures I've copied from above posts below? Same is happening in other threads where almost identical pics are posted by different users or the same user 3 days apart. I love the updates and wouldn't want them to be limited but only posting 'new' information would be appreciated by me eg. when first glass goes up on Guilfoyle, or when its topped out, or when a building facade starts to get set back. (eg. the Vic Harbour pics today were brilliant with the timber building, playground and glass on Aurecon, an live-work play groundworks all new information)

sorry(?!?) happy to be overruled by a majority on this one.

I'm afraid that's the nature of the internet; most of it is random white noise of no use to particular individuals. Learn to selectively ignore and you'll always get what you want

Haven't heard much of this, but saw in the age that it is apparently already over 50% sold?

Southbank Structure Plan Panel Report

Southbank Structure Plan Panel Report findings below:

Quote:
Built Form Outcomes

In many respects it seems to the Panel that the strategic direction in Southbank
Structure Plan 2010 is little different from the existing planning scheme. What is
different is that the main control feature is a new mandatory height and setback
regime. The use of such a mechanism seems to the Panel to be an attempt to micromanage development and to make urban design a formulaic exercise in Southbank.
Not only does the Panel consider that there is no basis for such an approach in
Southbank Structure Plan 2010, but also that the outcome of it might be a bland inner urban experience where design flair and innovation are quashed in pursuit of a predetermined outcome which is quite different from the one to which Council aspires.

...

While the Panel accepts that guidance can be provided in terms of height and
setbacks, it does not support the introduction of the proposed mandatory controls.
the proposed wording in the DDO is no changed significantly but the intent that the building heights be seen to be maximum heights has been removed. So the table still says teh 'preferred' building height in the central core is 160m but a permit can be granted to exceed that height.

It's hard to time things like that... I take photos every chance I get (which isn't very often)... It would be too difficult for someone like me who only visits the city (during the day) once or twice a month to time my photographs with major milestones.

Anyway, I don't mind seeing lots of random photos days apart... Every new angle brings something fresh to the table

Had a quick read myself. I thought the panel was pretty spot on in its stance towards mandatory height limits. They really emphasised that height in this context is not necessarily related to street level activation and 'neighbourhood character' and that short buildings can be just as poor down low. It also mentioned that high quality buildings such as FWP and Eureka would have faced difficulty in getting approved if the structure plan existed as proposed.

I also found the section regarding street activation interesting. They criticised council's move to limit ground floors to shops and food/drink outlets and mentioned that residential and office space can be just as effective. Can you imagine the oversupply of retail space and cafes in Southbank if every developer had to follow the 80% active frontage rule without considering office and residential as an option. I guess we're already seeing that around the city

Wow. Never expected a post like this. You sound like an ungrateful egotistical bitch. What you want to see and what others want to see. Not the same thing.

I for one really appreciate all the update pix. Used to take more than a few myself. Takes a lot of work. Taking them. Uploading them. Choosing the ones you think people will appreciate. Throwing away the rest etc.

Only posting new information..... what a twat.

wow way to go overboard with the insults. Its fine to disagree but I think your aggression here is completely unjustified given the neutral tone of JP's post

Thanks JD I always enjoy reading your posts... As usual with this board someone with an alternative opinion ( me in this case) is personally attacked.
