According to the Dom-Po this morning the mall redevelopment has got its resource consent, so I guess we are just waiting for a date from the developers to start construction

Where do they get the $300 million figure from?

More talk with no action. They've been talking this up for years.

J'ville needs this badly. Hopefully the integration with buses/trains is well thought out.

The thing I don't understand is, how can an expansion from 10,000 sq.m to 32,000 rsq.m, cost $300 million. That would be how much a centre like Sylvia Park or even Chermside in Brisbane is worth and they are between double and triple that size.

It cost about $92million to expand the Plaza in Palmerston North from about 20,000 sqm to 35,000sqm.

Still don't understand that $300 million figure, unless it involves creating a new public transport hub, or redigning the present town centre.

Its moslty a new build - not much of the old part would be kept - and the cars parks are all in carparking buildings. But $300M is ridiculous as you would have to charge about $2000/m2 pa for specialities which wont happen there.

A mate has a shop in there and he is not holding his breath. DNZ rose out Money Managers and Doug Edgar-Sommers efforts and they will find it hard to raise the money is the general thinking.

Not a serious proposal in my view - but happy to proved wrong as Jville needs it.

Westffields sold it for a reason I guess. What is not generally realised is the supermarket is not part of the mall - but I would think Warehouse might go there soon as the new Countdown signage has not gone up on that one. Jville has NZ's smallest Warehouse I think - and also maybe the highest sales psm from memory.

Welly crew - any updates on this? Will J'ville be saved or will it remain a shit hole for some years to come?

Well, there still appears to be life in the project yet,

It will be interesting to see how/if they tie it into the rail and bus links, or they get orphaned across a lonely carpark again.....

After a decade of stalling, the redevelopment of the Johnsonville Shopping Centre is back on track.

A resource consent for a new design, which includes space for a cinema, 120 retailers and 900 carparks, was filed at Wellington City Council this week by owners, Stride Property Group....

...The new consent has been scaled back to 26,000sqm and will cost more than $150m.

26,000 sqm isn't too bad, could be worse! I wonder what the cinema will be like. I get the feeling that the days of building 10 screen multiplexes are on their way out.

It only says "space for a cinema" which I guess they are hoping will attract a theatre operator, but I would guess they are thinking 2-3 screens, - wth someone like the lighthouse or another 2nd tier operator,

For it to be the kind of destination they're hoping it couldn't be a boutique cinema though. It'd have to be 2-3 screens showing all the major releases.

I hope there is a proper walkway to the Train station from that point.

"Walkway"??, Is it not possible to develop intergrated transport and shopping centres in this day and age,

The Railway and bus station should be fully intergrated, you step off the platform go through a set of doors /short passage and boom you are in the Mall,
