I did hear one of the passenger rep bods saying to a passenger last Thursday that they planned to run a shuttle bus into the centre of Oldham in the next week or so.

Maybe I is dropped because it's too similar to 1? (I guess we'll see if O is skipped for similar reasons?)

Anyway we tried it and is truly is delightful! It's basically the bowling pavilion, staffed by volunteers, and geared to the times of bowling activity including evening matches but opens most days for lunch. Really nice people, as you say, and it has regularly received green flag awards.
Twas I who recommended, but I inadvertently posted it on the Metrolink phase 2CC thread page 209, where you noticed it and gave it a plug on here but that must be a zillion pages back at the rate things have moved on.

Just to stray off topic (ish), Leigh is the intended target for a guided bus thingy ( and further more )

This kills off my plans for a Metrolink extension which would have connected Leigh AND Wigan to the network, with a gloriously named/rather dangerous "Platt Bridge Junction" in the middle.

Oh well, a man can dream....

You have answered your own question. Shaw and Rochdale had the basic infrastructure still in place, the SML was pretty much intact along its entire length. Leigh only has remnants of the track bed, so would cost more to develop.

A common misconception with Metrolink is that it is only there to take people from the terminus stop into Manchester.

Well, guided busways have acted as precursors for a tram line. Especially in Europe, or even Edinburgh!

I thought I would take a closer look at the bananas stored at Man City in the day time, 3031 + 3032 :-

Noticed in your pictures as well how well the yellow of the station blends into the background. It's not quite as harsh as you expect.

Found this on Flickr. The location of the new Wythenshawe Interchange, it won't let me get the BB Code as it isn't my image:

Couple of problems for a shuttle bus - there is a need for 56 days notice of starting a service to be given to the Traffic Commissioner.

secondly - would First run a shuttle bus to abstract customers from its own services to Manchester?

thirdly - will TfGM subsidise the service, in which case it has to go thru tender process, then 56 days notice!

fourthly - it needs TfGM to put a bus stop up somewhere near to the tramstop - if nothing else for the Tram replacement services which will come!

I think that you only need to give notice to the Traffic Commissioners if (a) you are operating a stage service and (b) you are charging a fare.

Why would it have to be First? Anyone could be contracted to operate it! On a Bank Holiday, it could be Boyle Street Museum!

It could be dealt with as a 'Metrolink Replacement Service' until the new line is open.

Could be run by Stotts, they're an Oldham-based bus company. Swans also runs bus services (and did run the 407 in Oldham) and are based in Chadderton. Then there'll be Bluebird and JPT in neighbouring Middleton.

I think a shuttle bus would be good, although, I'd be worried about the bus getting stuck in traffic getting around town. Traffic can build up around Rhodes Bank at the junction of Waterloo Street as traffic goes along the diversion from Union Street. Traffic can also queue back on Union Street from King Street junction to Sainsburys. And then there's the traffic around Manchester Street roundabout.

Not sure what route it would take and where it would stop. Don't think it can access the car-park/lay-by when heading eastbound, so would have to loop around Huddersfield Road, Cross Street and Lees Road.

Unfortunately the exit to the Mumps car park / drop off point is beyond the traffic lights to turn right towards the town centre.
The shuttle bus would probably need to drive along the Oldham Way (A62) and turn off onto King St (Metrolink related diversions notwithstanding).

Lots going on in the undercroft and mezzanine at Piccadilly this afternoon. A sign van has just unloaded a load of really big signs with 'trams to Eccles,Bury and Altrincham' and equally big ones for the other side with 'Trams for Ashton - Under - lyne on. Although the sign man is doing a grand job of sticking yellow tape over the Ashton ones.

Meanwhile on the mezzanine they are erecting some form of steel queueing system near to the top of the current 'alighting' escalator.

Looks like all go for the new football season!!

Good picture of South Chadderton and double M5000 trams at City Ground Johnny do anyone know if they got sign up at Man City saying "Etihad Campus" as I remember someone saying it still had Eastland City on it about 6 months ago? Also Man City first home game will be on 18th Aug and wonder will the line be up and running to Velopark by then.
