I presume Pagey is referring to the TV Licence which I wouldn't scrap but surely exemptions could perhaps be made to low earners, the unemployed and students or alternatively subsuming the TV Licence within income tax and VAT? On another note why on earth is there still a separate Black & White Television Licence which must be a massive anachronism in this day and age.
Also surely the rise of VAT to 20% must surely have had a noticably negative effect on the affordability of goods in addition to continually rising council taxes and overall rising cost of things such as food and fuel. |

As suspected, the Leeds Trolleybus is a dead dodo.
Shame, but was expected. Should have told us though instead of not saying anything..

Why would that mean it's dead?
I have my doubts that it has been successful, but you can't assume it's dead just because it hasn't been mentioned in a bulletin that isn't even directly related to NGT.

It was supposed to be announced by the end of May, and you would expect to see it under the transport section.. which leads me to believe they are not committed to it at all. It's a dead dodo.

I think the Govt has made LCC keep quiet as in they have shouted out about the possibility of NGT going ahead without confirmation before. Don't think its dead though, just being scrutinised by Govt transport bods. Would have thought any announcement would be linked to Leeds City Region getting the nod on its transport funding before Parliaments summer recess.

Does seem rather odd that the date for announcement has come and gone and yet no one in the media nor LCC has batted an eyelid...?

Another letdown. This shocker of a building was supposed to be reconstructed before the financial crisis hit.

I know how the Economy Bulletin is compiled, and its non-inclusion is in no way anything to do with people in the council having heard already.

Fair point, though considering the vast range of disparate data sources and things going on (which the economic policy team compile every day for a mailing list to council development department staff + partners in other organisations, they do a good job keeping tabs at all with just one guy doing most of the work!

Yes it is a bit Amsterdam-esque.
