That's kind of what I was getting at, of course smaller centres don't individually rival the power of Paris but they are viable regional centres in their own right in employment, leisure/retail or transport terms which can collectively act as a counterweight to the metropolis when they act together in common interests.

And if you live in Perth anywhere is going to be a very loooong drive, it isn't as if you have cities over the the border either that are driveable like US cities for Canada.
